I just got the word to when the program will air!  Tuesday, November 3, 2009 @ 10 PM et/pt

I don't know all of what is on the show, but supposedly, they will be airing me, getting hit, plus an interview they did with me.

I am sure they interviewed others, and possibly our own Bob!  Bob was the one that got them in contact with me.

Even if I am edited out, completely, this could be GREAT for us!

Yes, the show is about LSD, and its medical uses, but they also will explain what clusters are.  At least I hope they do!  We spoke for quite a while, the day they interviewed me.  Hopefully I don't come across as TOO much of an ass ...

Mark it down ... November 3rd at 10 PM!

Chuck

Adding it to the calendar right now.

I'd rather not see you get hit ever again, but I'll watch anyway.

Wooooot!!

Outlawed in 1966, LSD became a street drug and developed a reputation as the dangerous toy of the counterculture, capable of inspiring either moments of genius, or a descent into madness. I am praying to God that we are finally seeing the lab breakthroughs come to fruition for us. If the researchers can bring migraine sufferers on board, this thing will happen fast.

Thanks, Chuck.

The woman from NG also interviewed me in Chicago.  I had just gotten over a  hit and was not at my best but she sat me down with a newbie and interviewed the both of us.  I had no idea that I was the 1st. person besides himself...that he'd ever seen get hit. He was in tears.

I've always said that no matter how embarrassing it is to be caught in public...if it educates even one person, it is worth it.

Omitted, let's say for brevity, were prison experiments, which in context seemed after that date.  I didn't pay close enough attention when reading, but I know somebody here who has the when and where.

If correct: U.S. intro, Max Rinkel, '49; research limited by Congress, '62; Sechedule I, '70.

I like what's been learned today better.   :)

Also, if somebody has contact info for the woman representing Nat. Geo. at the clusterbuster conference, she may be able to hook us up.

I think the best thing we can do is find out if it's going to be made available by National Geographic on DVD. Maybe the ch.com store could sell it and make a little money off of it. On the other hand, distributing bootleg copies can get people in a heap of trouble, and I hate seeing my friends get in trouble.

(And once a legal copy of it has been sold, there is nothing preventing anybody from lending it to or borrowing it from a friend.  ;) )

New York Times review of the show.

Television
Neil Genzlinger

´The brown acid that is circulating around us is not specifically too good,¡ an announcer memorably intoned all those years ago at Woodstock, magnifying LSD?s already bad reputation among Establishment Americans. If hippie freaks were warning other hippie freaks away from it, it must be nasty stuff indeed.

Now, as the 40th anniversary of Woodstock fades in the rearview mirror, the National Geographic Channel is giving LSD a second chance, as it were. On Tuesday night in its ´Explorer¡ series, ´INSIDE LSD¡ talks to scientists and therapists who are examining the narcotic anew, trying to learn specifically how it works in the brain and whether it might have uses that Jerry Garcia never envisioned. The program, as its narrator, Peter Coyote, says, is an attempt ´to separate the myth from the molecule.¡

One segment explores the possibility that some form of LSD could help sufferers of cluster headaches, and its footage of one such sufferer in the throes of an attack leaves you wishing the poor fellow relief no matter where it might come from. In another part of the program, a woman with terminal cancer talks about how an LSD trip helped her break free of the anxiety about death that was consuming her final months.

´It was my faith coming back to me,¡ she says, describing the feeling brought on by the drug. ´My faith that there?s something out there.¡  <START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE;

Hey folks,

As Steph mentioned, the National Geographic Channel contacted me today to ensure we knew that it is absolutely illegal to tape and distribute television shows.

The dude that called me was very cool about the whole situation but ensured me NG was prepared to protect their interests with any legal means necessary.  I understood what he was saying perfectly clear.

With that being said... if you are missing a post in this thread, it's probably because it mentioned something about sending out copies of the recorded program.

NG has provided me with the link to the DVD of the program and told me they are ready to ship out tomorrow as soon as the show airs.  Here is the link to the DVD on the NG web store: START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

OK, I watched it (while cringing during every moment of video with me in it) ... I looked and sounded like such a dork!

I wish more of the show was about clusters, but every bit helps!

I was expecting our own PinkFloyd to be interviewed.  I don't know where I got that idea, but it would have been nice.

Overall (if you were to exclude the dork) it was a good show.  Well reported, and by the looks, very well investigated.

Kudos to National Geographic Chanel for a very informative show!

Now let's hope this boosts the interest and permission so that Dr Halperin can get his study under way!

We can only hope ...

I guess we're all critics after the fact, but I can see why they put that kind of stuff in. In this community, we're interested in one thing - how can this substance improve our lives. Most people are interested in how the hallucinogenic properties might improve their lives.

Not us. It's already proven that non-hallucinogenic doses get the job done for us. I guess I can forgive NGC for the overall presentation. Their interests are slightly different than ours.

Not having seen it yet, I can't speak to how the information "was" presented.

But I agree with Brew in that the producers of the show certainly would have differing interests than ours in how it gathered and presented the information.

After watching it, and the following Meth show (talk about scary, I was in Omaha and closely followed the search for the two young kids) but what struck me is the dopamine mechanism.  Do we know if the dopamine mechanism is triggered with Bromo or the other psychadelics?  At McMaster University they conducted trials where a person could actually increase their dopamine levels themselves with training.  I WANT that training.  The ultimate natural pain medication.  Wonder what it takes to trick to the brain into firing off that powerful pain killer feel good chemical without OVER stimulating it.

So many areas to look into, and just not enough money, time or resources to help .... *sigh*

I'll respectfully disagree on the twirling sticks lady.  It was there to round out the discussion on LSD. I was very pleasantly surprised that they put CH early on and covered it so well for what they were doing.

Chuck and the rest did an awesome job on their part.  I was very impressed Chuck with your wording and attitude, it came off very well and you didn't come off as a "whoa is me" victim!

I so agree with you Linda. It just didn't fit into the rest of the stories. The time spent there could have been used for more medical content. And Chuck, you were great. Thanks for putting yourself out there for others to learn from.

Oh, you girls probably don't see a good reason for having girls in bikinis in the beer commercials either.  :D

If the story is, "Ya can't tell a book by it's cover" then you need to show the cover. To dispel misconceptions you need to tell the entire history.

Besides that, I'm sure all the ladies out there twirling sticks with ribbons have a different viewpoint of the content of the show and what else could have been focused upon.

I can tell you all this. The producers of the show took our part of the story very seriously and were determined to make it a serious, respectful look at what we as the cluster community had to say. I cant say enough about the care and concern they showed in telling our part of the story.

If you consider the long and storied history of LSD and psychedelics, we easily could have ended up on the cutting room floor without the producers commitment to our story.

I kind of see the point but not really. When ever I talk about alternative medicines, the trippping psychadelic is what everyone thinks of. I would have loved to have seen more medical issues like post traumatic syndrome so that people could begin to see it in this light only, just for a moment. And Bob it's ok if bikini girl sell beer, that's supposed to be fun!I am very thankful for what was done with National Geographic. I called Lisas allergy dr before it was on. I can't wait to here his opinion.

I guess I can forgive NGC for the overall presentation. Their interests are slightly different than ours.

I mentioned this right after the program aired, and I'll say it again. NGC has bills to pay, and they do that through advertisers. This was NOT merely a report on some scientific studies. They had to dedicate part of this show to something that drew the non-scientific community in. Part of it was aimed at aging hippies, and I'm okay with that. I'm also grateful they included what they did about CH.

Ordered my copy day before yesterday.    :)  Several of my (non-CH) friends have expressed interest in seeing it as well, and I've passed along the ordering information to them.

Kudos to the NGS, and to all those involved in the making of this production.

Best wishes,

George

Not us. It's already proven that non-hallucinogenic doses get the job done for us.

Both of my sisters watched the program they were lucky enough to have never seen me when at that much pain ever. Both called crying worried about me. Big sis lives in Texas and little sis used to live in FL. Its been years since I let my clusters get past an eight on the pain level. My prevent and rescue meds have been doing the trick I just never let it get past a 6-7 before I take the big time shot. Hope all is doing good Terry here in chilly DavCon signing off Ü

I saw this show twice!  Chuck, I could appreciate the gesture you made when the mask fell off the bed and onto the tanks.  At the end of a hit, I couldn't be bothered to pick it up either.
