Title: Alternative treatments
Post by Emma_s on Oct 5th, 2009 at 10:39am
I wondered what anyone’s thoughts would be on alternatives treatments?

A lady at my place of work is a holistic therapist and is very well known for Indian Head Massage and she approached me and said if I wanted to she will give me a taster massage.

Usually I love massage, facials and treatments but this time I am obviously looking for some relief from the headaches (I haven’t been PF for 12 weeks with constant shadows and migraines so far.)

I don’t expect a miracle cure (or we wouldn’t be putting up with this vile pain) but I am wondering if anyone has tried anything that has helped ease some pain or even helped relax you during a cycle? Or have treatments actually made it worse and aggravated the pain?

Thanks for reading :)

Speaking only from personal experience--no.  Didn't do any good.

In fact, deep tissue massage in the area of the neck and shoulder (which have issues throughout my cycles) was downright painful.  Didn't exacerbate anything, but it didn't help, either.

So--I doubt it'll do any harm, but it'll surprise me if it does much good.

YMMV.

Best wishes,

George

Massage and Chiropractic do help me during my cycles because my neck and shoulders get so stiff, knotty, and painful that it pulls everything else out of balance.  I would go for it.

Hi Emma!

I'm wondering if you had the head massage and what happened? I am a supporter of my husband, and I love Indian head massages and was thinking of suggesting it to my hubby as it may help in some way.. I just don't want it to make him any worse!

Well massage hasn't worked for me but energy work has~ I know it doesn't hold a good light in many areas lucky for me it does here in mid valley Oregon. It has helped with lessening pain experienced and when worked with everyday three times a day my the hits were lessened. Donna Eden was the author I was recommended, and I am still finding it incredibly useful.
Best of luck~

Hello Bex - sorry for the late reply...trying to sort out moving house at the moment...hectic!

I didn't try anything yet because I have constant tension and migraine headaches I just don't feel comfortable with someone touching my head at the moment as I instantly think it will make it all worse  :(

arcticspirals: Donna Eden - I actually did a book review for my work on one of her books, it is a very positive read so is worth a look - anything to feel more positve and relaxed!  :)

PFDAN everyone x

Massage can be very helpful with muscle tension and pain associated with combatting CH, but it won't do anything for CH unless you can get inside and massage the hypothalmus.
