Title: Short term relief from a cycle Post by Dallas Denny 62 on Oct 12th, 2009 at 8:59am
Just wanted to share something my Doc has done for me on my last 2 cycles. Hit count for me at the peak of a cycle is usually 6 to 10 in a 24 hour period for days on end. Needless to say, after several days the sleep deprivation is so bad that I look and feel like a zombie.
About midway thru the cycle before this current one, I went to see my Doc for a new Imitrex script and be basicly told me I looked like chit...lol. He then told me if I needed to get some uninterupted sleep, he could help! He had his nurse give me a shot of a mixture of phenegren and bubane in the butt cheek ( hurts as bad as those gamma goblin shots I use to have to get in Nam ). By the time my wife drove me home I was already like rubber. She helped me into the house, undressed me, poured me into bed and I slept for almost 24 straight hours!!!! I got another one during this current cycle ( probably 3 weeks ago now) and got about 18 hours sleep. Don't know if this will help everyone but it sure is a relief for me. |

Such a strong sleep that even worst pain possible won't wake you up, is this some sort of coma-like stuff?

From what I understand it is the same thing they give you prior to taking you to the OR for surgery. You have got to have someone there to drive you home after the shot cause you've only got about 30 minutes of functioning before you go out like a lite.

Did it just give you the needed sleep - or did it also break your cycle? Just curious.

I believe he might have meant *nubain* (it is a synthetic opiod and is only given im) and it is a fairly heavy duty painkiller. It is also used for migraines (unfortunately, I found out the hard way that I'm allergic to it).

I believe Nubain is given as a supplement to general anesthesia for pain. It is not what knocks you out for surgery. Honestly, it sounds like a dangerous drug for me when in cycle because if it did make me sleep (which I an mot sure it would), I fear I would wake up with a severe CH. Anyway, I am glad it works for you. Pain meds don't work for most of us so I am not sure this is a good idea for most people..... however, if it works for you.... excellent! |

My doc tried that ONE time. It knocked me out, but sometime during the knockout - Mr. D paid a visit and it came thru the knockout. I was so out of it, I couldn't walk (oh I was alone in the house of course) and had to crawl to the bathroom to get my cafergot supp. (that was fun - it was up high and I was down low and it took a while). Then I got back to the bedroom and couldn't get back in bed and had to call a friend to come help me back in bed.
This friend (being the nice person he was) got upset at my condition and went to the clinic, walked in and told my doc to get in his car and take a ride with him - brought him to my house (he hadn't helped me back in bed) and let the doc help me back in bed. It shook the doc up and he promised NEVER to try that again (he thought he was helping me so I forgave him when I sobbered up). I'm glad it worked for you, but I'll stick to my melatonin at night. Might want to try that -- sometimes it takes a few days to get in your system, but if it works it sure helps you get some needed rest to fight Mr. D during the day. But you'll find out that around here, we take anything that works for us and we're all different. Hugs BD :-* |
