I went to a party last night that was last minute, thrown for my friend Amanda Arney, her boyfriend Joel and another soldier who left today for Iraq. I've known Amanda since she was a young teen and have seen her grow in so many ways over the years, and now this mother of 3 will be serving her country for a year in Iraq.

We had a blast catching up on things and she is excited about going to Iraq. However, the area she will be in gets hit regularly with mortar attacks but she said they are not very strong anymore and are mostly shielded against. I told her how proud I am of her and that she is my personal hero.
I plan on having a much bigger party for her when she comes home. Here's a couple of pics from the party.

I remember when she was a little goth girl back when it was 'uncool' to be goth, but she was always strong-willed and went against the grain. Now she's all grown up and in the army now.

I saw a segment about this unit leaving for Irag on the news this morning.  They will all be in my thoughts and prayers for a safe return home.

Yep Beth, they were on channel 5 news before they shipped out. I missed it on the news but Amanda posted about it on her Facebook.

Now now Linda, I have shaved, obviously - otherwise my beard would be dragging right now.
