Title: Disney..!
Post by Lefty on Nov 23rd, 2009 at 7:57am
Hi folks, I've been on this site for almost a year and I have received nothing but sound advice, your definitely a wise old bunch. So I seek your advice once again.

I recently quit the smokes and with the money I've saved we decided to book a trip to Disney Orlando from the 4th to the 18th of May 2010. We initially booked the Disney pop century hotel but we are now having second thoughts of 2 weeks in such a small room with our "crazy" little 5 year old. I am a man of great patience but Sweet Lord I don't think Soooo...!

We are on a pretty tight budget as you can imagine but would like something a little bigger that is not to shabby and close to the Disney parks. I have been searching the net but I'm starting to go blind at this stage there's such a wide selection.

Any personal experiences or recommendations would be greatly appreciated as we would like to make this a dream holiday for the kids.

Thanks in advance..!

Have you considered one of the Disney onsite campsites?  I'm pretty sure you can book a site with an RV already on it.  I'll try to find the info I had on it and get you a link.

I've not been personally, but whenever Mom went with her fellow, they took a 5th wheel camper and stayed in that and found that to be an excellent way to see the park and all the sites without being restricted by a hotel room.

Hey Lefty, congrats on kicking the habit. That is one difficult thing to do!

I am a disney 'regular'. I used to live in S Florida and used to go 5 or 6 times per year. I have since moved to NJ and still get down there about once per year. There is one resort that I always go back to which is located about 3 miles away from the Disney exits off I-4. It is literally a 10 minute drive to the disney gates. There are 1, 2 and 3 bedroom condos, and 3, 4 and 5 bedroom homes. It's a great resort for kids, as it has several playgrounds, and also has its own water park. All condos/homes are fully furnished with plenty of silverware, etc.

It is not a disney property.

Have fun!

If you stay on a non-Disney property then you can't take advantage of the meal plans.

The first year we went, we stayed at Pop Century and the kids at that time were 5, 9, and 5 months old.

It's a great place to stay - lots for kids that age to do.  Try and book one of the preferred buildings which puts you closer to the main building and the bus stop.

This is a great web site to check out "Mom's Panel Walt Disney Resort."  They have a FAQ panel which will pretty much answer anything you want to know.

We've been down three times now and have stayed at a different place each time.  My personal favourite was the Port Orleans Riverside but it's a little more expensive.

Remember, you won't spend a whole lot of time in the room anyway.

If you want any more info, please feel free to PM me anytime.  You have to go a couple of times before you can figure the place out.  :)

I went yearly a half dozen times in the '90s and stayed at various places.  The hotel variety is boggling.  Just wanted to say that if staying that long, take in Universal City also if you can, it's a great place, too.

Thanks for the advice folks. I think we are going to stay with pop century because we just looked at the small print and it will cost us a £200 admin fee even if we move to another Disney hotel. I think your right Carol and that we won't be spending a whole lot of time in the room anyway.

Thanks again for the advice...!

A BIG congrats on quitting smoking. ;)
You might want to consider a beach house, but make sure you get the address correct! ;D
