I'm just back from the Ryan Headache Center. The Dr. I saw was wonderful! He even knew about OUCH and ClusterBusters! He commented that I was "very well read" LOL! I told him it was all thanks to this place and that he should visit sometime!
My 02 was ordered and will be delivered today! Jeannie |

Potter, I have been giving her (gentle) whacks for awhile now. ::)
YAY!! 02 will make all the difference in your life. Get a ch, hit the 02, and back to living within 15 minutes at the most. |

Yippee skippee!
Did you get an O2ptimask, too? |
Title: Re: Getting 02 TODAY! Post by Jeannie on Dec 9th, 2009 at 7:24pm
No, right now I just have the non re-breather mask that it came with. I noticed that the mask has holes in the sides, I am assuming to let the carbon dioxide out when I exhale. Do these need to be covered somehow while inhaling to prevent outside air from getting in?
These giant tanks are a lovely addition to my living room! Thanks, Jeannie |
Title: Re: Getting 02 TODAY! Post by Marc on Dec 9th, 2009 at 7:34pm
How giant are we talking?
Yes, tape over the holes and just breathe out by lifting it up if required. Does the mask have a bag? Marc |
Title: Re: Getting 02 TODAY! Post by Mac_Muz on Dec 9th, 2009 at 7:35pm
I haven't got a clue as to how the mask works. If it comes off the tubing, till you get better info just breath straight off the tubing.
I turn off the knob on the torch handle between breaths. I hold the handle real close to my lips inhailing. Don't let a incorrect mask stop you from the breathing. |
Title: Re: Getting 02 TODAY! Post by Jeannie on Dec 9th, 2009 at 7:38pm
In looking at the paper work they say they are M cyclinder tanks. There is no bag on the mask.

Please get the o2ptimask if you can, it is designed for us and it is the best mask ever.
The holes on your non-rebreather mask need to be covered to stop any outside air from entering while you are inhaling the o2. So happy you got the o2, and we will help you with "fine tuning" it in. What LPM regulator did you get? May this give you the relief Jeannie that so many here have gotten from aborting a CH using o2. 8-) PF wishes. :) |
Title: Re: Getting 02 TODAY! Post by Mac_Muz on Dec 9th, 2009 at 7:53pm
There is a regulator right? A brass, maybe chromed gizzmo with a knob of some sort on it, another on the M tank as well?
A tubing would come off the regulator and go to the mask. Since I don't know how the mask you have works I would guess you need to tape up the holes.. I would also guess you might need to exhail lifting the mask, untill you have the proper mask. For a fact once you get 02 feeling like a fresh breeze in your face, and can draw right off the tube any CH is likely to be gone in a short time. What is the regulator read out in? Liters per minute/ pounds per square inch? |
Title: Re: Getting 02 TODAY! Post by Mac_Muz on Dec 9th, 2009 at 7:59pm
Marc, we crossposted almost... The o2 menu on the left shows the bottles by size in a picture.
LOL that is the same tank my o2 for welding is.... There had best be a regulator! It better have 2 gauges, what is in the tank and what the flow rate will be. She is going to need a big wrench, in metric it is 30mm I think in SAE I think that becomes 1 and 1/4 inch. |

I stole the one safety issue from the o2 sidebar menu..
adhear to this... SAFETY WARNING: You must have a place that has NO open flames- NO SMOKING cigarettes, NO candles, NO fire! Oxygen can saturate your clothing, bed sheets, etc. and then catch on fire when you light a match. Be very careful and wait at least 30 minutes after using oxygen before smoking. |

Jeannie, so happy for you! I just got my 02 Monday this week and already feel better just having it in the house. I agree, a lovely addition to the living room. Barry, thank god you posted that picture. I have the exact same thing. It says rebreather mask but has the holes on the side with only side coming with a flimsy paper thing on it. Wasn't sure what to do about it. I assumed I should try to cover them which I have been but was a little confused. The bag attached inflates and deflates as I breath. Does this mean I'm ok to keep the mask on at all times or that I should be exhaling with the mask removed for a moment? Yes I will purchase one from the site as soon as I can get the funds. Not much money for peace of mind and ch control but nonetheless living on unemployment at the moment.

Title: Re: Getting 02 TODAY! Post by barry_sword on Dec 9th, 2009 at 8:39pm
This takes a little practice but I covered the holes simultaneously while inhaling the o2 removed my thumb and index finger to exhale. To me it seemed to limit trapping outside air in the mask.
The new mask is 100x better. But in the mean time, this non-rebreather helped me abort CH's. ;) PF wishes [smiley=hug.gif] |

You really lucked out getting a good supply of O2! Most people have to fight their way up to even one M tank. What settings does your regulator have? Marc |

It goes up to 15.

WhooHoo Jeannie!
Let us know about the first aborted Headache! It felt like a miracle the first time for me. I couldn't quit smiling!! I felt like I had control for the very first time. 8-) Best to you! Angela Edit: I use a lower flow (7 ish) to stop a persistent shadow, and breathe for about 2 minutes. |

I CANNOT believe how stupid I've been!!!
My pain never got above a 5 or so and was gone in 10 minutes! ( It might have been sooner but I think I need to work out the best way to breath.) I'm so glad I finally came to my senses and got my butt a new doctor. Thank you all again!!!!! Jeannie |

Everyone has their own technique, I think there is a topic started on this very thing. But, I breathe in through both my nose and my mouth, deeply and exhale through the mouth. I breathe rather quickly.
Did you get the right mask yet. I've said it plenty: If we just ask our doc, they should supply you with a free disposable non-rebreather mask wrapped in plastic. I get one or two every year; If my wonderful dog chews through the air line or my husband uses it to cure his hangover and didn't brush his teeth first ...."eewww get your own mask!!". So glad you got O2! Angela |
Title: Re: Getting 02 TODAY! ( IT WORKED!!!!) Post by LeLimey on Dec 11th, 2009 at 1:11pm The first time I used O2 it was such a miracle I wanted to just tell all my friends that it worked. I used to cry from sheer joy. I felt I'd got my life back. When I first tried a clustermask it was to please someone else. I didn't really think anything could make a real big difference. Oxygen was already pretty incredible. OH MY GOD!! I didn't just want to tell my friends, I wanted to stop people in the street and tell them. If I thought I'd cried with using a rebreather it was NOTHING to the absolute exhilaration of a mask with a 100% seal. Now you know how good oxygen is, ask Santa for an optimask. I guarantee you will be amazed. :) I am so so happy for you Jeannie, I'm sitting here with my nose going all twitchy and my eyes are pricking - someone somewhere must be chopping onions eh?! ;) lots of love Helen xxx |

Just curious about the costs? If I may what was the price for the M bottle regulator and mask(s).
Who owns the M bottle ? Who owns the regulator? I assume you own the mask(s). Does the regulator have a gauge to say what amount of o2 is left? My interest is is comparing lease and o2 supply, less any doctors bills. I lease bottles, but I get actelene and 02 on the same lease for 200 bucks at 4 years. I own the regulators, and pay for exchange bottles as I use up the gases. I am at 500 psi in o2 now so don't have much o2 left, and will soon discover in the year 2009 what o2 cost is. And on edit: I re-read the entire thread.. Now you have a weapon, and you can controll the beast, and go to war with it. No longer can the beast controll you. This in turn will allow you much more power, and if you want, you can let the beast win once in awhile. I find that works well for a reminder of what it wants, and then you can take it back again and be in controll. An odd attitude, but now maybe you will understand me a little better. I didn't come to this site to be Mr. Popular in the first place. I had 3 nights PF and the beast returned last night, rearing his ugly head and I killed him before it got started. I got that tell tail sting in a nostril, and went for 02. That was to teach the beast I wasn't playing this time. Yeah, I am no brain in here, I don't understand like most others do, and I don't see the beast as some internal infliction, so I treat it differently than most. I treat it like this beast is something from outside my body, and I allow it to live, but in my way with my rules. Doing so makes me feel a lot better about how this parasite effects me. It makes me feel empowered. Since this harms no one else, and makes the battle worth the doing, sometimes I allow the beast to win. This makes an adventure. So NOW YOU are IN Controll! The rest of the learning will become habit. Oh yes... last night I beat the beast at kip 2 in less than 10 minutes.. I can't wait for you to do that any time you want... mac |
Title: Re: Getting 02 TODAY! ( IT WORKED!!!!) Post by Jeannie on Dec 11th, 2009 at 9:28pm
With my insurance, I pay $12.63 a month to rent both tanks. That is 10% of the total cost. New ones will be delivered as needed, I just call when the gauge indicates that they are getting low. Apria is the medical supply company that owns the tanks and regulators. I guess the mask is mine.... It is disposable.
I hope this helps. Jeannie |

All three of my regulators tell me how much is left in the tank. What am I not understanding about your question? |
Title: Re: Getting 02 TODAY! ( IT WORKED!!!!) Post by Marc on Dec 11th, 2009 at 10:04pm
Medical regulators have pressure gauges on the high side. Expensive medical regulators also have an output gauge calibrated in liter per minute flow (not pressure)
I pay $18.50 for a refill of a T size welding tank (holds about 2.5 medical M tanks) that's 330 cu ft in welding tank terminology. I pay $45/ yr lease on the tank and I bought my own mask. One regulator cost me $60 and the other was $45. I use a welding regulator on the T tank at home and a 25 lpm medical regulator for the smaller tanks that I carry in my car, because it's compact. All of my regulators are CGA-540 so they fit both M size medical tanks and all welding tanks. What did I miss? Marc |

Marc you didn't miss a thing, and did answer.. Jeannie I asked a bunch of qiestions and got only one answer.. at a time.
Not a big deal.. I don't have medical equipment, and use welding equipmet for CH and for welding. So I was wanting to understand about medical regulators. Mostly the concern there is for someone who can't access real medical equipment. As to the link to the pics I thought it might be fun to see who you are talking with.... guess not.. No big deal there either.. Thanks for the replies.... :) |

I pay $12.63 a month for two M tanks. My insurance covers 90% so my cost is only 10% of the total. This includes one mask, one hose, a regulator with a gauge on it that indicates how much 02 it left in the tank. Quote:
Apria owns both. I am renting them. Quote:

Jeannie, I don't know, but maybe I owe you an appology.. I get pretty confused when I am in cycle.
Some years ago I tried to write with about a kip 10 to see if i could. At best i made words. Others here at the time were pretty pissed. I am not much of a social creature in the first place, and in cycle even less. So I can be pretty hard to understand myself. Thanks for the reply. |

No apology needed, Mac. I just wanted to try to answer your questions they best way I could. I hope your cycle ends soon.
