When I was first diagnosed Ch, I remember Circadium rhythm being mentioned as associated.

Alot of posts indicate regular cycles in late fall and Spring. I wonder if there is a connection to shorter then longer days as a trigger and ending to CH cycles.

Light exposure?! less light in the fall and more light in the spring!  The hypothallmus (sp?) controls these things no?

I've heard that depression can be triggered by shorter days and that they treat it with artificial light.

Also plants, of course, respond and move through their life cycles (grow...flower etc.) triggered by the number of hours of daylight!

I'm sure I'm not the first to wonder... any one know if there have been any light therapy (to mask seasonal light exposure changes)experiments  been tried?

Not aware of any, but I've often wondered the same thing.  To be convincing, such a study might require a pretty good-sized group of reliably seasonal episodics, I think. 

Besides photoperiod, there's also the matter of differential changes in the wavelength of light as the seasons progress--redder in fall and winter, bluer in spring and summer.  Could those changes affect hypothalamic function as well?

Questions, questions...   ;)

Data from the Cluster Headache Survey we completed last year at this time indicates distinct elevations in the cycle start frequency twice a year in the March-April and October time frames...

As these dates correspond closely to the Vernal Equinox in March and Autumnal Equinox in September when the hours of daylight and darkness are the same, it appears shorter or longer days are not a significant causal factor...

I guess there goes my Nobel Prize?

I have had ch for 22 years cycles during all seasons some of my worst in summer northern canada 20 hr days but I've had some bad xmas and new years  as well so length of days does not matter to me as much.My ch used to be much worse until I moved from the coast to mid west 10 years ago cycles less often up to 14 months onetime no ch but theerre back

I think that its the change frm long days to short OR short days t long that might be the trigger. Like plants. Who knows but it sure seems like everyones cycles coincide.

I wonder if a cher moved to wherever the daylight is consistent year round or lived indoors with artificial light?

Im really starting to question the smoking connection to CH.
The posts on this site suggest that quitting has little impact?
I've heard alot of migraine people say that after quitting they never got another headache. I'm still smoking away of course. I noticed my cafergot pill bottle says do not smoke while taking this medication" Ha
