Title: Fluorouracil
Post by NovellRed on Jan 17th, 2010 at 4:32pm
Grasping at straws here, but has anyone else on the boards ever used Fluorouracil 5% Topical Cream?
Fluorouracil cream is used to remove pre cacerous skin growths (caused by many years of exposure to the sun). It is a type of Chemo chemical peel.
My use of this cream (several months ago) seems to coincide with the start of a very unusual cycle.  I finished my first round with the cream a week ago and the cycle is changing again. Less frequent and less severe.
The cream causes substantial swelling and skin lesions I am wondering if one has anything to do with the other.

Not just a chemical peel - it has anti-viral and anti-tumor properties and may irritate nerves or cause nerve damage. It may also indirectly change the immune system in a way that causes inflammation.

Well, I have been pain free for a week now. It sure seems like the Fluorouracil and the beast are in cahoots. Took about a week after starting the treatment for the beast to show up and it took about a week after the last application for the beast to leave.
I have a cross country flight coming up on Monday. If I can make it without a visit from the beast I will know he is gone for sure.

Very interesting!!  I was being treated for cancer with fluorouracil last year- it was the chemo kind that went into your bloodstream.  My CHs stopped shortly after I started the chemo.  Not sure if there is a relationship there or not.
Sadly, they returned about 2 months after chemo stopped.

Well, I made it across the country without a visit from the beast. Makes me think the fluorouracil is a factor.
Heading back to the left coast tonight. If I make it back without the beast I am pretty sure this bout is over.
DocBlondie, sorry to hear yours came back so quickly.  :(
