I didn't see the name listed for the attendant walking behind her carrying... I wonder if that's her purse in his other hand.

I'm not sure this is what the American People were expecting when they said they were going to "create more jobs"....

Thanks, Mel.  Should have suspected, the colors didn't match her dress well.  I'd have fired the deputy associate director of purse coordinating.

Now I'm the last person to defend the Obama Whitehouse but...

How does her staff compare to that of Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton and Barbara Bush?

Just curious.  Seems to me that organizing state events can't be simple.

I'm not buying, Dennis. They all say "Let them eat cake."

The federal government has been out of control for far too long.

This is just one example.

Cursory audits of virtually every Municipal, State, and Federal government agency/operation consistently reveal the self-granted benefits of “Public Service”.

Politicians and the politically connected are riding the taxpayer gravy train, and laughing all the way to the bank.

How did it become so-easy to convince so-many taxpaying suckers that excessive “Self Service” is somehow the greatest form of “Public Service”?

yes, unbelievable. And I'm certain only the tip of the iceberg.

Just a familiar tradition started by one wife in an apparently less formal and more open White House time.        as written

"... to quell the rush to dinner from the reception area on her first evening as mistress of the house, Sarah Polk ordered the Marine Corps band to play "Hail to the Chief" and turn a would be stampede into a regal procession.  By the end of her White House years, that old Scottish anthem would become the traditional announcement to clear the way for the president."

"Polk", the man who transformed the presidency and America

Michelle Obama currently has 24 paid staff members.

Laura Bush had 18 paid staff members.

White House telephone directory records indicate that Hillary Clinton had a staff of 19 as of March 2000.

The discrepancies come about when a position of "staff assistant" is assigned to the first lady rather than being a general assistant.  Most dedicated staffers have "first lady" in their title, such as "nose wiper to the first lady."

Fantasyland.....sadly.

Something happens to people when they cross that threshold.

I read something similar that Laura had nearly as many people picking up crumbs wherever she went too.

I also read that Jackie had as many as 40 but then she was Jackie. You had to be there kids. She may have paid for some anyway. Political types would never have brought such a thing up in the 60s. It just wasn't done.

The author of the piece is a little to the right of Louis XIV by the way.

A decade too late.  The best "more perfect" union possibility was McCain in 2000.  "We have to give the political system back to the people".

Madison's noble yet perhaps naive perception of making something of yourself in Federalist No. 10, where safeguarding individual ambition was "the first object of government", preventing overreaching "is the principle task of legislation."

Nobody could hear through the noise of a $100 million in campaign contributions for the divine right by the opposition's daddy conduit.
