Title: introducing myself
Post by kirogi on Feb 9th, 2010 at 11:03am
Hi my name is Tony, 48 years, live in Belgium, and I have CH since probable 20 years.
I get CH twice a year and they last for about six weeks. most of the time during the nigt arrouns 1.30 am and for about 2 hours.
First time that I had CH I slept with my window open, and thought that it was due to draft of cold air on my head that caused the headache.
over the years CH became worser until I get them now twice a year.
last time I had it was year and a half ago, and until this week when it all started again.
I used to take some migraine medicine to get rid of the pain but it did not help, maybe a little but mainly for the pain afterward.

And I must admit that the pain this time is not so bad as I used to have in the past, its even bearable, could it be with the age that pain is becoming less?

well that's about it for a start, hope to hear from some of you  ;)

Welcome from America! I'm almost 50 and it does seem like they mellow out a little as you get older. That being said, facing them with nothing woul still scare the heck outta me. What has worked well for me is a 2 pronged approach:

1: A good preventative medication. A med I take daily while on cycle to reduce the number of attacks I get and the intensity of the actual attacks. I use lithium.  Verapamil and topomax are also popular frontline prevents.

2: A good abortive. A headache starts, now what. Read the oxygen info tab on the left. 31 years of CH and it's my most effective abort. I can halt an attack in less then 10 minutes. Imitrex injectables and nasal sprays are also popular. The pill form is sometimes prescribed but generally takes oo long to be absorbed for it to be effective for most.

You have much reading to do! So glad you found us, hoping we can help you.

Joe
