Title: Deadliest Catch
Post by deltadarlin on Feb 11th, 2010 at 9:08am
Phil Harris, capt. of the Cornelia Marie, died Feb. 9 in Ancorage Alaska.

He had suffered a major stroke, but appeared to be recovering.  He was only 53.

He had been working on fishing boats since he was 7 years old.

DC is one of my favorite shows.  Cap'n Phil will be missed.  Though I can't say I was surprised at his passing.  The man just never took care of himself.  Tough job.  Tough man.  Good fishing family.

RIP Cap'n Phil...

I got a e-mail from my old deck boss that Phil had a stroke while unloading Opies at St. Paul, and that he was flown South. I guess Ray Derek went up to take the boat out to finish out the Opie quota.
He knew this would probably happen if he went out again. Its an occupational hazard. You go because you must. You come back if you can.

I'll remember him.

I agree with Dennis the man did not take care of himself and should not have gotten back on the boat after his first stroke he had. I love the show and Phil was a lot of fun to watch along with the rest of the crews. My prayers go out to his family and friends especially his boys, you could truly see how much they loved their dad when he went down the first time and was hospitalized. A reminder to us all that life is short and you have to do your best to get the most out of it and do your best to stay healthy.

Here is alink to what happened.
