Like any other abortive treatment, be prepared for it not to work one day. You think energy drinks work? Try slamming one and then get on some high-flow oxygen through a non-rebreather mask...

Brew took the words from my mouth, energy drinks are a nice hand grenade, 02 is like going nuclear! ;)

Tryin to get the o2 just happy to have somethin other than a hot shower to cope which never really stopped the pain just would mask it for a min till i got used to the heat. as far as the sleep issue drank my first one ever last night and was able to sleep about 30 min later but been some months since i really slept more than afew hours and that was always scared sleep and after drinking the monster i didnt have shadows or anything and still dont right now about 14 hours later havent been rid of those since the clusters started so livin a new life right now

How do you get back to sleep knowing that you're going to bitch-slapped by another attack? I'll take my chances if an energy drink is all I have available (I'd go the O2 route first). |

Yep what Brew said. Don't try to get oxygen. Get oxygen. Potter |

O2 is my weapon of choice - particularly at night. Losing sleep because of the energy drink only sets you up to be out of sorts the next night. Daytime I'll go to the Red Bull but not at 1am. |

When I don't have 02 available at night and I slam an energy drink I never have trouble with the caffeine keeping me up. It's almost like it knows where to go to fight the good fight! My body, when in a tough cycle, is usually pretty tired to begin with. This is just my experience, though, and I know others who struggle with it keeping them up, so you'll need to try it in order to find out, I think. Cheers - |

My husband just started using the red bull. 1st time a kip 2. Pain got worse then the O2 killed it. 2nd time a kip 1. Pain went to a kip 10, O2 nothing. Had to go to the trex. Any one have any thoughts?

What's his flow rate? Is he using a non-rebreather mask? |
Title: Re: energy drinks wow Post by hez on Feb 15th, 2010 at 5:25pm
15LPM yes

Some people don't get any significant effect from O2 unless they're literally hyperventilating with it. That doesn't occur until a minimum flow rate of 25 lpm.
If 15 lpm is the highest his regulator goes, he might want to consider buying a higher flow regulator, or even a demand regulator (like scuba divers use). E-bay is a good place to start. None of this will be covered by insurance. |

He was doing okay on the O2. It would kill the attack, but it would come back in five mins. It was suggested to try the redbull first and then the O2 to make the attack stay gone the first time on O2. So I wonder if the redbull is making it worse. Is there an adjustment period with the redbull?

Okay, he said he is not emptying the bag. He woke to the pain at 3 this morning, did the O2 and it killed the attack. I think for him the redbull may not work. Any thoughts?

Yes. Maybe slam the first one, get on the O2, then drink the second one in between breaths of oxygen. How big of a guy is he? |

He's 6' 220lbs.

Yeah, have him try draining two of 'em next time he gets hit. Get on the O2 as well.

Perhaps he should try hyperventilating with O2, emptying whole bag for starters at 15lpm, try getting some cheap 25lpm regulator so he can try and see if hyperventilating will kill his every attack.
