Title: Welders o2, tank, etc
Post by LasVegas on Feb 16th, 2010 at 12:05am
Although i'm not in cycle, I want to know how to prepare in advance instead of learning/shopping while in CH panic.

I plan to get a high flow regulator from ebay which has a 15 lpm flow rate, ideally 25 lpm.  Unless there is a better source for regulators?

A NON-rebreather mask will be ordered from the ch.com store.

Lastly, I will need o2 and an M tank for home use.  I have no health insurance, so i'm on my own payin cash.

Questions...
1. I've read on this site many use welders o2 and it aborts CH's just as good as medical o2.  Considering that is a true statement, how do I order an M tank filled with o2 from a welding supply company?  I've read to say that "i'm doing some welding at home, etc" or "I need this for my fish tank, etc" but really not too clear on these statements, what to say, how to reply if questioned what it's for, etc.

2.  Is it really that easy just to walk into a welding supply store and order an M tank filled with o2, pay cash and load it into my vehicle and drive away?

Thanks in advance for helpful replies.

The guys at welders supply don't care what you do with the tank. Lease the tank, it's a one-time couple of hundred bucks.  If you lease the tank all the maintenance is on them.

Just don't tell the welding shop you are going to breathe it. It's that simple. You will also want a regulator that is a 540cga, that's the screw on connection. The same as for a medical M-tank. (large)

I don't use welding but have read much about those who do. If you do a search on the website you will find more info, use the search link at the top of this screen.

Good Luck, Don

No they lease you an empty tank.  Just call them for crissakes.
