How much is oxygen out of pocket if you dont have insurance?

And how much does someone use on average to get rid of an attack.

I have yet to use my "M" tank that sits in the basement.  Next cycle will be my first using O2.  It cost $36 out of pocket.  My insurance does not cover it.  I bought my own mask from here and regulator on Ebay.  I thought the tank prices were cheap.  I got it through Praxair.  They may have a facility near you so check them out.

Usage of O2 depends on the person and how many attacks they get a day. This cycle right now I cleared an H tank in just about 5 days.  Got another one last friday and about a 1/4 of it is gone already.  It all depends. 
Cost wise. I paid for the refill this cycle out of pocket due to swithing from 1 neuro to another but 2 portable tanks and the H tank cost $115.  That was with the $50 delivery charge. And that was with Roberts Home Medical.

If you're having three or more attacks a day, the best deal on out of pocket medical oxygen is ordering the M-size medical oxygen cylinders.  I keep three of them on hand for a month's supply...

The average price for an M-size oxygen cylinder that holds 3995 liters per refill, is $30 and there may be a deposit.  You may be able to get a lower price if you pickup and drop off the cylinders at the fill facility.  They weigh 70 lbs unless you can get the aluminum M-size that weigh 40 lbs, but hold a little less oxygen...

The average price I've seen for E-size oxygen cylinders runs $20 to $25

Assuming an oxygen flow rate of 25 liters/minute that supports hyperventilation...  most folks will consume an average of 150 to 175 liters/abort... or 20 to 25 aborts per each M-size cylinder for a cost of $1.20 to $1.50/abort.   

If you're an using E-size oxygen cylinder you'll get 4 to 6 aborts at this flow rate for an average cost/abort of $3.50 or more...

I might add that at a flow rate of 15 liters/minute for attacks at the higher Kip-levels, you can easily average 20 minutes or more for ≥300 liters/abort.  The E-size cylinder holds 708 liters.

After you get good at hyperventilating at flow rates of ≥25 liters/minute, you may be able to cut down the time and cost/abort.  I'm averaging over 35 aborts/M-size oxygen cylinder so my cost/abort is well less than $1.00.

You may need to buy your own CGA-540 regulator to get flow rates ≥25 liters/minute as most home oxygen providers only carry regulators up to 15 liters/minute... 

If you do buy a regulator, go for one capable of 0 to 60 liter/minute.  I doubt you'll find one of these on eBay so shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to give you the order spec's, the OEM's numbers, and a POC who understands cluster headaches.  They run $140 to $190 or about the same as a pack of 9 imitrex tablets.  I have one of each of these regulators and they're great when used with an O2PTIMASK™ or demand valve.

You also have the option of using Welder's oxygen.  Prices on these cylinders vary with size and are generally 5 to $10 less than medical oxygen.  You'll need the same CGA-540 oxygen regulator as welder's oxygen cylinders have the same type of fitting and M/H/K size medical oxygen cylinders.

Thank You All! I got what i consider to be pretty lucky today. Made an appointment with my moms GP today at 8am and he saw me at 10am. He actually knew about ch and wrote me script for O2 at min 20 lpm and he is gonna work on getting me a free MRI since he is the first doc ive seen. Made me laugh when he prescribed me ambien and said it might make me sleep through the attacks. Also amitriptyline hcl 25mg i guess to rule out that nerve trimengenial or somethin like that. Im pretty sure thats not the problem but he is the doc and he knew a good amount about the meds used for ch so goin back in two weeks to check on progress/ MRI. Also found a place to get O2 that actually had had a few people there with the same problem so they knew what i needed i didnt even have to tell them after i said i suffered from ch. Picking it up tommorow they had to get the regulator from their warehouse. Its rental 40 dollars a month 20 dollars to refill. So tomorrow ill find out but they seemed pretty confident they had what i needed and even seemed like they knew how badly i needed it. So today was a good day. Many ch'ers, myself included, find that melatonin not only helps us sleep through the night, it also has the added benefit of preventing the nighttime hits from ever developing. Plus, it's a helluva lot less expensive than Ambien.
