Title: Oxygen is coming today Post by TcRoc on Feb 19th, 2010 at 9:31am
Except its the Concentrator with Non Rebreather mask,,, they said they could order me a M60 which I will have them do,,, how long will a m60 tank last at 15 lpm say 10 min sessions?
At least for now I'll have something even if its the concentrator which people say doesn't work,,who knows maybe it will work for me |

...and I actually work in Harleysville which is even closer to Limerick. I get my O2 from Praxair out of Allentown, $36 per fill w/o insurance coverage. I also pick it up myself to save on delivery costs. An aluminum "M" tank.

Oxygen concentrators can be used in a pinch.
If you fashion yourself a new reservoir bag out of a 40 gal trash bag... seal the open end with duck tape, put the supply tubing in one opposite corner, and a mouthpiece or a 2" length of 1/2" PVC pipe in the other corner and seal both with electricians tape to ensure an air tight seal, you'll have an effective capability. If you fill the bag ahead of time fold and seal the mouth piece with a with a rubber band, you'll have nearly 150 liters ready when the next attack hits. With a rig like this, you can inhale from the tube & exhale around it as fast as you want without any restrictions. This will make it easy for you to hyperventilate your system into respiratory alkalosis for a very fast abort. A flow rate of 15 liters/minute works for attacks at the lower pain levels but your abort times will be well over 20 minutes at the higher pain levels. That's why most of us that use oxygen therapy at flow rates that supports hyperventilation... At three attacks a day you'll need four (4) of the M60s for a 30 day on hand supply. I'd also pick up a regulator good for 25 liters/minute or one that supports selectable flow rates up to 60 liters/minute if you really want fast aborts at 7 minutes or less... Buying one of the O2PTIMASK™ kits from the CH.com store tab on the left is also a good idea... The 3-liter reservoir bags are a must... Take care, V/R, Batch |

I've never used oxygen before so your confusing me a bit ,,what do you mean hyperventilate my system?
And this concentrator doesn't do squat,,slamming a redbull did the job |

When an attack comes it is most effectively killed by breathing fast enough to cause hyperventilation. You know when you were a kid and you would have competitions with your friends to see who could breathe fast enough to make themselves dizzy? That's what I'm talking about.
What's that? You didn't do that as a kid? Ok, I guess I was just a stange kid ::) This is how it works for me... At 15lpm I can't hyperventilate. However I can at 25lpm. You only need to do this for five minutes or so. It will kill the pain. Then stay on for another 5-10 minutes at a lower rate, say 15lpm, to make sure it stays gone. Anyway, this is what works for me and many others. Some folks are able to abort fine with as little as 8lpm. Some use as much as 60lpm or even demand valves where there is no upper limit. We're all unique in what works and what doesn't so you have to experiment to find what works for you. With a concentrator, it takes a while for the machine to begin making 100% O2. It generally starts somewhere around 85% O2. Those early minutes count. What Pete (a.k.a Batch) is proposing is to rig up a 40gal trash bag and keep it filled with O2 at all times (I believe) by constantly running the concentrator. This should give you enough pure O2 to abort a hit without having to wait for the machine to come up to speed or suffer through with a low flow rate. Personally, I think it's a brilliant solution. -Dennis- |
