Title: What my neuro thinks regarding meds Post by Plakatboy on Feb 26th, 2010 at 9:55pm
According to my neuro, he has the opinion that cluster headache should be controlled with medication to lessen the trauma. He thinks that w/o meds, the repeated trauma will cause the brain to think its normal, thereby worsening the condition or causing the headache to become chronic
I’m sure this has been discussed before. Some ppl thinks that meds worsen their condition. An example would be verapamil causing a longer shadow period. Again, we are not sure if its the meds or the headache morphing. My question is has anyone gone the no meds route and actually have their condition worsened? |

never been to a neuro, never and used conventional meds. i never had insurance so it never made sense to pay cash to a doctor for him to experiment with different meds and for him to get a kick back when i buy them.
anything i've used to treat my headaches with i've obtained with out a prescription or a neuro including o2. i don't have the liver and heart problems associated with conventional meds. as far the severity of my condition i cant say that its any worse than it ever was except maybe they weren't as bad when i was a teenager. its probably about the same. only difference being that now i have allot of good information and a good support group to bounce ideas off of. |

Was diagnosed 30+ yrs ago and put on narcs and opiates by a Dr (well meaning, but) who didn't know any better. After getting myself off of them I went without anything for several years until I found this place. I then found a good Neuro who tried me on various things. Some worked, some didn't, some had nasty side effects, and I went chronic. Since then I have gone with Kudzu, O2 and energy drinks and live my life reasonably well. Still chronic.
I don't believe it is the meds or the lack thereof that makes one go chronic, but that is just my [smiley=twocents.gif] Jerry |
