Has anyone ever admitted themselves to the hospital due to severity of pain and unable to controll self due to all the pain? I wanted to last night but i worked my way through it.I seriously thought i was gonna die.

Trouble with that Chad, is that most of the time the pain has run it's course by the time you get there, OR the intake folks view you as a potential Drug seeker if you are still half out of your mind in pain.

Unless they have seen more than one Cluster patient there and know what to do in an ER situation that is.  It's rare, but I have read of folks finding a good ER experience once in a blue moon.

It's a far better thing to educate yourself, then print out what you need and take it to your Neuro. 

Demand they read about the O2 and to prescribe it with the right regulator and the right mask.

I second what Pegg said.

I have gone to the ER only once in 23 years of being chronic.  They treated me horribly.  When I finally got into a room I ran for the 02 which was on the wallabove a bed.  The nurse said.."what in the hell are you doing?"   I knew exactly what I was doing..Dr. gave me a shot of Imitrex and said...bye-bye.  Oh and btw...that'll be 1,200 dollars thank you very much.   I'll never go again.

yeah i have. had a nice lengthy kip8 in the waiting room. they quickly moved me on in. the doctor seemed to be seasoned in his profession but he didn't know what to tell me. so i paid $250 to scare the crap out of the nurses, the patients, and the doctor.  :D

last cycle i had 3 kip 10s back to back lasting 45 minutes. my wife got scared and her and her stepfather forced me to go in. they gave me a shot for motion sickness and sent me another bill for $250 :D

Unless you've established a good relationship with the folks at the ER... and they know from previous visits that you're a cluster headache sufferer...  going to the ER for the first time with cluster headaches is a crap shoot and the odds are not in your favor that you'll get any satisfaction... or relief from your attack.

A less expensive and far more productive option is to swing by the local food market and pick up 2 gallons of ice cream and take it to the nearest fire station... 

When you get there, give them the ice cream, tell them the truth that you're having a terrible cluster headache attack and you're run out of oxygen... 

Most fire stations will have an EMT on duty with plenty of oxygen...  Tell the EMT you need a flow rate of at least 25 liters/minute to abort your attack as it takes that much flow rate to support hyperventilation long enough to get your CO2 level back down to normal so you can abort the attack...

Finally, if you can't afford the ice cream and you still want to go to the ER, stop by the local food market and pick up a can of chunky stew with a zip top...

When you get to the ER, tell the receptionist you're having a terrible cluster headache attack...  If the receptionist says, "Take a seat..." go over in a corner away from the receptionist, zip the lid off the chunky stew, then make a retching sound as you spill the chunky stew on the floor...

(It's very important to hide the empty can as soon as you do this)...

Then grab both your head and chest and say in a loud painful voice, "It hurts"...  no more and no less...

That should get you to the top of the triage list and into a a doc real fast...

Take care...  and do ask your doctor for a prescription for  oxygen therapy...
