Title: Delta. have you heard??? Post by BarbaraD on Mar 6th, 2010 at 7:45am
about the Sheriff in Bossier Parish who started the Exodus Squad? I don't know how to pull up the link for it, but saw it on the news...
He's armed 200 guys with shotguns and night-sticks and they have a machine gun mounted on a pick-up truck and are gonna wipe out terrorism in Bossier Parish and keep down civil unrest. It sounded insane and scared the bejesus out of me when I heard it. My KIDS live in Shreveport!!!! See if you can find something on it. I've looked but am not good at research. I think it was on KTAL, but even the newscaster was a little upset about it or seemed to be. This didn't even sound legal. |

* Supposedly* "there have been "cells" and people operating within the parish "that have been trained as terrorists or went overseas to be trained as terrorist." Apparently 63% of those polled voted against doing anything like this in their own community. |

Based on the obvious opinion the writer had of the subject I'll withhold judgement without the whole story. Partial quotes taken out of context can be made to portray something opposite of what was actually being said.
So I think he is over-reacting? Probably, but as I said, I'll withhold judgement for now. Jerry |

This stuff in some form or another always pops up. Mixing all that ordinance with Bible quotes makes be a tad nevous however.

That machine gun and "war wagon" are a little over the top to me. 200 guys "protecting" the people from "terrorist" ????? in Shreveport????
My son is up here this weekend and told me one of his old friends is one of the 200 chosen ones... now I am concerned... I know this guy and he would shoot first and ask questions later. Hair-trigger temper and "reason" is not a word he knows. I love him to death, but..... I can just see PROBLEMS with this whole thing... And I'm GLAD I live in Texas and wish my kids did. |

Hell, there are a couple of whack posse-type groups here in Wisconsin. I'm sure they're all over the place, and you're right, Carolyn - we just don't know about 'em.

Yes they are all over the place- just not usually run by the sheriff. That is just scary!

I know I'd rather be standing along side the breech end with most of those guys. They do have a tendency to shoot first and ask questions later.
We used to have a police chief in Milwaukee whose street motto was, "Stop or I'll shoot again." |

We have the country's largest Middle Eastern settled population of about 350,000 here overwhelmingly peaceful in the Detroit area. Whenever things have come to a head, it seems the Feds had already been on it for a long time, the last FBI shootout mentioned two years. Haven't heard of any vigilante-type groups around for that purpose and could not imagine the possibility of it openly operating here.
The sheriff accents terrorism as a source for catastrophe, or natural disasters and wants to be ahead of the curve where resource protection may be needed and state and federal resources are limited. I'd believe them to be limited here too, but of the occasions making news, it has seemed the Feds have been the ones ahead of the curve already with uprooting threatening terrorist-type organizations locally. Investigations use a Detroit Joint Terrorism Task Force led by the FBI with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Air Marshal Service. I don't know when this LA group was inspired, but the attempted bombing of an aircraft before landing in Detroit over Christmas showed a large failing of Fed security measures and communication, it was passengers who wrangled the suspect with a chemical bomb after he tried to detonate it, which didn't work properly but caused sparks and flames that needed extinguishing. Al Qaeda claimed responsibility. |

Vigilantism is a dangerous slippery slope. It will start of with terriosm and end up with some poor critter getting a base ball bat across the legs for shoplifting. Let the cops do there job...!

All you need is to do enough gun shows Barb. There are a ton of people out there convinced that the end is near. I got to know a lot of them and some members of not too shabby militias along the way. It's been awhile though. I haven't been to one since before 9/11. It would be interesting.
By the way Kev, New York State has its share of iffy groups too. The thing is though that I agree with a lot of Brew's sentiments around this issue. I'm sorry but it's common sense profiling and I hate these bashtards. I was never satisfied with what I see as rather thin responses from them concerning their horror at 9/11. I'm not sure circling the wagons in the fashion of the LA crowd is the best thing but at least we know WTF they are up to. Charlie |

Oh I know we have our little groups here in Texas. Everyone out here in the country carries guns in their pick-um-up trucks, but the sheriff doesn't have a possee to keep out terrorists.
It's the "fanantics" I worry about. We have the "Republic of Texas" bunch not too far from here ranting and raving about something or other. They make the news periodically. I think they're going to take back Texas or something. But they're NOT law enforcement. A guy from Big Sandy went to MO to join a CULT and they are ARMED big time. But he was a nut case when he left here (and thank goodness he left HERE!). I guess I'm just gettin' old (older?) but I still think of the policeman as "your friend" and wish our kids could grow up thinking that also. I'm trying to teach that to my little Caleb. He has a cousin with the Sheriff's dept here and we stop by and "visit" Sgt Connie occasionally and he's met most of the deptuties and the Sheriff and thinks they're "neat". And of course he adores Sgt. Joe and wants to go to San Diego. He told Sgt Connie all about him. We should be teaching our kids to "respect" law enforcement - not "fear" it. This militia stuff is just instilling fear. |

When I was a kid cops were our friends and I suppose it's true enough most places but right or wrong, cops are taught to be afraid of us more than we of them; for their own safety. I can understand it I guess but it's created a procedure only situation when dealing with the tiniest of things. If there is any place a little nuance or common sense is needed it's this....at least it should be.
