Interesting.
What I know about computers could fit in a tin cup...but my first reaction to that warning is, a person who IS good at computers and has an ax to grind with this site. |

Sounds very strange... maybe its a link to one of the advertisements or something simillar. I havn't recieved any such warnings when I logg in but I have for other sites. Maybe DJ or one of the Mods may have an answer.

I've had this happen to me before.
I *think* it can coding patterns that resemble suspicious sites, links members post and stuff like that. I know if your own firewall settings on your pc are high you'll get this from just about every site you visit. In a nutshell I think it's overcaution on your pc/firewall/anti-virus part but I'm sure DJ will answer in more depth :) |

That's been happening on another forum I sometimes go to. I'm guessing that Microsoft is flagging all sites created with certain bulletin board software as potentially unsafe. I have no idea if this a real security hazard, or if microsoft is over-reacting, or if someone is pretending to be microsoft to hijack traffic.

Whew! I'm glad someone else said something like this and it isn't just paranoia on my part. I know Karla has been here a long time and it seems strange that it would just happen all of a sudden. |

I sometimes get a pop-up that tells me I have a virus, and need to get my Microsoft Windows scanned to remove the bad stuff. It makes me laugh (in a pissed off sort of way) cause I don't run Microsoft Windows on my computer! They are trying to generate fear and turn it into traffic (and sales of dubious anti-virus software). Not sure if that is what is going on here, or something else ... but that kind of thing does happen, and it is happening on other forums.

How could any site be considered unsafe when it contains people like Guiseppi, Seaworthy and LeLimey?

Its Helen's fault.
Seriously it s probably because of the advertisements. Nah. Forget that. Its Helen's fault. |

Yup - it's all me.
I'm suffering rootbeer deprivation 'cos a certain Bostonian has been promising me some for YEARS but always weasels out of his debt. So it's HIS fault that its MY fault 8-) |

Karla,
Sorry you got a crazy message when logging in. I can assure you, this board isn't running any malicious software. Sounds a lot like some of the Facebook-type viruses I've read about where it says everything is infected. Not sure what I can do from here except ask that if anyone else has the same problem, could someone take a screen shot and send it to me so I can look into it more? Karla, have you gotten the same message a second time? I assume you still are logging in as before? Sorry again and thanks for any additional information. DJ |

DJ,
I didnt get the message when logging in. I got it when I clicked on the general message board. The board came up but then so did that message. I clicked to ignore the message so I havent seen the message again. |

DJ I got a couple times this session as well (prior to reading this post). I'll grab a screen shot and email to you. This is on my work pc where the security settings are generally higher than my home pc.

Agreeable here, too. It would be unfortunate for any new, contributing Ch'ers to be put off from this site by what seems a dubious general spam-like cautious preying forums, although some pictures that appear of Jezep may be scary to those afraid of clowns. Don has seemed Seaworthy again for fishing excursions, I trust the sense of dogs and if his beagle is getting in a boat with him, that's good enough for me. He's also passed the root beer meet and greet, provided pictures with the added "who farted" are captioned humorous-minded and not of the you-had-to-be-there caution. Limey's a different story. Personal experience of smart-butted joviality at her expense advises reading Redd's words of wisdom, but nudge some accented sprucing into it : "Never miss a good chance to STFU." Not a known level of hell, but facing an undefined corner for the "never learning" where behind you feels breezy, like a flap is missin back there. The carved initials are mine. |

Be very careful if you see a message pop up that says you have viruses. do not click on the box at all. it actually IS the virus. sometimes it will come up and say mccafee has detected (some#) viruses, lol usually an outrageous amount too. basically if it doesnt come up on your regular antivirus it's probably malware or a virus. clicking on it launches the virus. this virus is hard to remove and sometimes requires manual removal from the registry itself. I have delt with the stupid virus on several occassions. very frustrating use the task manager, if possible, to close this box. just a helpful tip ;) |
