Title: I cured my cluster headaches!!!
Post by xochitl on May 7th, 2010 at 4:18am
I began having migraines at age 13 which then progressed to CH in adulthood. I remember my first CH lasting for what seemed like an eternity, I was mid-air when it happened and they actually did an emergency landing because they thought I was having a stroke due to the right side of my face drooping.

That was years ago. I'm happy to say that I have not had one CH, migraine or even a headache in almost 2 years.

I used to get them 3-4 times a week no matter what and I am sure you all know the cocktails of pills and shots you go through to get rid of them. Well, I'm off medication, I'm done with doctors, I'm free of pain.

I went to go see a chiropractor for my back on an un-related issue in northern CA and what I found was way more than back relief, I no longer have CH!!! I had them at least 3 times a week continuously for yeeeeaaaars and now I have nothing!

I recommend that ANYONE with migraines or CH see a chiropractor. He did for me what no Western doc was able to do with their fancy MRIs and pills. A simple x-ray revealed   a tiny, little kink in my neck. Pop and some traction took care of it and within a few weeks I was CH free.

As it turns out, doctors x-rayed me as well but they are looking for entirely different things than what chiropractors seek. They kept missing what was right in front of them.

And chiropractors are so much cheaper too! It took me a good 4 chiros before I found Dr. Wagnon but he got rid of them and no amount of gratitude can ever explain how much that CHANGED MY LIFE!

I am no longer a slave to my CH. If ANYONE suffers from these, TRY A CHIROPRACTOR and have them focus on your headaches. It cant hurt any more than the CH does and it cant cost anymore than is already being taken away from you by your CH.

I cant scream it enough! GO TO A CHIROPRACTOR FOR YOUR CH!!! Take this from a 13 year CH sufferer. THEY'RE GONE!  ;D

... fancy MRIs ...

Do you feel the MRI ruled out serious concerns, or did it help relieve certain questions, considering this circumstance?

A neck kink, glad you found your problem.

Funny - hundreds around here have found no relief whatsoever via chiropractic. Even my chiropractor said she doubted she could do anything for my cluster headaches. She was right, but she's still my chiropractor.

Then you had cervicogenic headaches rather than clusters.

I'm glad your Chiropractor cured your CH. I was thinking of going to an Oncologist for my hangnail.

Funny how the nasal spray and the chiropractor can only "cure" those with under ten posts . . . .

First of all THERE IS NO CURE FOR CH.

Second we have a very prominent sufferer here by the name of Doug Wright who is a Chiropractor and he says that any practictioner that says that chiro. can help, ease or in ANY way stop CH is a quack. PERIOD!!!   It may be helpful for a lot of other ailments, but CH isn't one of them.

LMAO about the under 10 posts thing.  It is so true.

Careful xochitl .

The 11th post is a known trigger. If I were you I'd play it safe and stay right there at 2.

Like so many others, I've tried Chiropractic for CH.

The conclusion you've reached about CH and chiropractic brings to mind the expression: "My word, that's a stinking honkload of baloney".

If it comes 3-4 times a week it is not cluster headache. CH by definition must come every day once or even more than once. It usually comes at the same time every day with variations of 30 min or so if it is not modified by precipitating factors or medications.
I don't know what type of headache you had had, but thanks god you found a cure.

Nope, same one.

This is your bi-weekly post designed to get a rant going on the board.

Everything that is useful to be said has been said.

More responses only keep the silliness going and takes energy/attention away from helping those who want to hear....

Its amusing. Theres pleny of room on this board for that.

Thraed like this one drives home the point that there is no cure and Chiropractic treatment is near useless.

Although the term "cure" is far-fetched, keeping an open mind and accepting that the occipital nerve and the trigeminal nerve run through the same neurological circuitry, the thought of attaining some relief through orthopedic treatments is not entirely abstract.

Knowing that the stimulation of the occipital nerve can achieve relief for some, it follows that the treatment of a physical trauma (an accepted possible cause for CH) that may have blocked or affected the occipital nerve could result in a degree of relief.

Below and excerpt from a paper examining this relationship.

November 16th, 2009
Functional connectivity between trigeminal and occipital nerves revealed by occipital nerve blockade and nociceptive blink reflexes
V Busch, W Jakob, T Juergens, W Schulte-Mattler, H Kaube & A May. Cephalalgia (2005) 26:50-55

"...It means that the occipital nerve and the trigeminal nerve feel into the same central circuitry, and that stimulation of the occipital nerve can affect what the trigeminal nerve is feeling. On a practical level, it provides an explanation for why occipital nerve stimulation (which on the surface looks like it is therapy on the wrong nerve) might help cluster headache, and also explains the often-made observation that people with neck injuries or degenerative disk disease in their necks can develop cluster headache...."

I'm surprised by a term "often made", seems a clinical experience due to repurcussions of certain headaches from skull-base injuries more than seemed researched and published.  A headache specialist observation maybe.

Having experienced severe neck trauma of head through windshield, several years followed of similar symptomatic suggestion, but went away after that time.

During WWII, Spitfire squadron leader Le Roux of the South African OC 602 Squadron patroled roads around Livarot, burning vehicles marked his earlier strikes.
He kept an eye particularly for a large cloud of dust on roads knowing the most dust is put up by the speed of a powerful car rather than greater weight of a vehicle.

July 17th, '44, Rommel's powerful open-topped Horch was spotted this way by a pair of Spitfires responding yards above ground strafing with 20mm cannon beginning 500 yards behind and the driver hit.  Veering, the car hit a stump to one side of the road and caromed across rolling into a ditch upside down, Rommel flung headfirst onto the road and unconscious 20 yards behind

The Luftwaffe hospital at Bernay diagnosed a fracture at the base of the skull among other head and injuries, frequent and severe headaches followed, he was transferred to Germany's top eye and brain specialists near Herlingen, Tubingen University.

With time, recovery was sufficient to be implicated through the torure of others in the attempted assassination plot of H, but the severe and frequent headaches ended due to the other matter by the favorable choice of poison offered by Waffen SS General Burgdorf.  No chance of possible future cluster diagnosis if there had been one then.

Individual as they are, neck to head injuries are in cases curable, unkinkable.  ... "degenerative disk disease in their necks" would be a matter unknown here, but can be individual in effect.

Glad it worked for you. I am a beleiver in Chiropractic. Before I found this site I went to my Chiropractor and I was sure it would work. When it did not I found an accupunturist/ medical doctor covered by my insurance and did that for a while. Neither helped the headaches. I found my experience was much more common than yours afer I found this site.

The word "cure" is only true the day you die!

Don't be let down when the beast returns.  Some on here have had remission for 15 years and the sucker returned.
