Title: Name that tune....
Post by QnHeartMM on May 12th, 2010 at 11:13am
Hi everybody - Joe and I are wanting to put together a sing-along book that we can use at gatherings. We had a great time in Kentucky the night that Joe and Brew jammed at Jimi's house. The hard part was coming up with ideas for songs. So my request-challenge to you all is name a song that would be good for a sing along. Think campfire songs!

Let's see how many we can get in a list!

Anything with harmony. Harmony sounds great when you have many singing. Such as anything Everly Brothers, Peter, Paul and Mary, Beatles, Simon & Garfunkle, Crosby, Stills, Nash and even Young etc etc.

Can you put some song titles to that? :)

The Sound of Silence,  Bridge Over Troubled Water to name a couple of Simon and Garfunkel.

One song that is on my list is "Take me home country roads."    Even if there are some who don't like John Denver, almost everyone knows the lyrics to this one and I thought we all harmonized so great when Joe played it.

My other two are John Prines "Paradise"  and "blowing in the wind by Peter, Paul and Mary.

Oh Linda.....you are NOT getting credit for coming up with suggesting that song. Have you forgotten the whole reason we had to drive all the way to Muehlenburg County....down by The Green River where paradise lays.......well I'm sorry my son but you're too late in askin......Mr. Peabody's coal train has hauled it away....but I regress..

You're a musician, you know the score: On the bass, it's all the same. Country, rockabilly, rock and roll, blues.

I-IV-V-I. Throw in the occasional vi.

There's nothing new under the sun.

Yep - I know, Brew.  The guy that plays bass guitar in our band - is actually a very accomplished musician who plays the best jazz guitar I've heard in a long time.  He often will sit and play that other guitar during our breaks.  I could listen to him for hours!

If you call your balls "meatballs", then yeah. [smiley=grin2.gif]

On Top of Spaghetti by Tom Glazer

On top of Spaghetti, all covered with cheese,
I lost my poor meatball when somebody sneezed.

It rolled off the table, and onto the floor,
And then my poor meatball rolled out of the door.

It rolled down the garden, and under a bush,
And then my poor meatball was nothing but mush!

The mush was as tasty, as tasty could be,
And then the next summer it grew into a tree.

The tree was all covered, all covered with moss,
And on it grew meatballs, all covered with sauce.

So if you have spaghetti, all covered with cheese,
Hold onto your meatball, 'cause someone might sneeze.

You mean CCR's Bad Moon Rising lyrics for old people?

I am having trouble driving,
Hotel is fifteen miles away.
I feel my bladder is a-tightenin',
I wish the urge would go away.

CHORUS:
Just sit and hold tight,
I won't unzip my fly,
There's a bathroom on the right.

I feel that the pain is growing,
I know I'm gonna let flow soon.
All I can think about is oceans,
My upholstery's about to be ruined.

CHORUS
Hold tight!

Wish I could hold it in forever,
But my willpower's starting to slide.
Looks like I'm gonna taint the leather,
But I'll hold until my kidneys fry.

CHORUS
CHORUS

A bit off topic but...
Reading all about it makes me want to come to one of those gatherings... Too bad it's on the other side of the planet :P

I love country rednex style or 60ies rock 'n roll.
But Amy mcdonald, enya, corrs and roxette are my absolute favorites.

Singalongs are great on those events.
Songs like sweet home alabama.
Seems you have wonderful suggestions here :)

One last call for the names of "sing-along-songs" folks. We're not talking concert here - songs that people know and can sing along with the music. Rather than wait til we're all together to try to think of songs, we're trying to put a list of stuff that people know.

What songs have you:
Sung around the campfire
Sung at camp
Sung while driving
Sung while cleaning house
