Title: Meningitis
Post by Grinner62 on May 29th, 2010 at 2:17pm
My grand daughter (6) is responding to the meds while the cultures are growing to find which flavor of Meningitis she has.

The military quacks sent her home 4 times over the past 2 weeks with zithromiyacin for Strep throat, an ear infection with a fever that wouldn't break. They sent her home again Thursday with, yet again, a splitting headache with, still, a fever that wouldn't break.

My daughter took her to an emergency room with a pediatrician on call. That Dr. had her admitted to the children's hospital in Philly. Sometime tomorrow the labs should be back.

How do you get a medical license revoked at a military medical hobby shop?

Military docs couldn't care less if your not a bleeding bullet sponge or a retiree. I went to the Navy docs 2 or 3 times a week in my last year of service. The first trip I was told I had a sinus infection when I explained my headaches. That's typical...but when the antibiotics didn't work and I returned, I was was told that I had allready been seen for this issue and to just "get over it". I asked to see the medical commanding officer and was told, "he doesn't see girl thingy little sailors that complain about headaches" All of this from a medical doctor holding the rank of commander (O-5). I talked to my command, and they tried to ask questions of the medical staff, or so I was told, but eventually I got the same treatment from my own squadron after a time or two. I hold absolutely no faith in the military medical community. I believe them all to be over fed, over paid, under trained, assholes with a chip on their shoulder. May they all rot in hades. ...sorry for the rant.

I am hoping for the best for your granddaughter.

Good thoughts and prayers for your family.

Maybe the military hospital docs don't give a damn, but I'm sure your Congressman would love to know things like this.  There have been some problems with our VA hospital and most times, a letter or a phone call to a congressman would at least get somebodys attention.

Good rant by the way!

I'm with Carolyn on this one -- WRITE CALL or GO SEE your Congressman! THEY GET RESULTS!!

Prayers going out for your granddaughter...

Whew! She improved through the night. I was worried about that, if you know what I mean.

Even the medical staff at CHOP is appalled at the (lack of) treatment from the hobby shop.

Thanks all for your prayers and thoughts.

Hmmm, I know where my congressman's office is here in town. Maybe a visit from a pissed off veteran paw-paw will focus his attention. Do cluster headaches or just proximity to the beast make us evil?  [smiley=evil.gif]

Neither.  The *beast* comes out in all of us when it comes to our kids or grandkids.

My son was diagnosed with menigitis when he was a baby in a military hospital and life flighted out.  He had all odds going against him and a 5% chance to live.  He is my miricle child. That was 25 years ago today.  I remember it like yesterday.  Your familly will be in my prayers during this difficult time.  Please keep us posted.

[smiley=bow.gif]  I bow to your wisdom darlin'.

Hannah seems to be out of the woods, but looking at 2-3 weeks in the hospital. She's already tired of lock-down.

She's gonna wet herself when she gets this first care package. I found a netbook on sale. The internet is good reading practice. Mom can use it too, now there aren't any excuses for slow status updates.

She's doing much better.

She should be going home in a day or so with a picc line (catheter from her arm to above her heart) for IV antibiotics for a couple weeks.

Thanks for the updates!  Hadn't posted, but I've been praying.  Give her a big hug for us.
