Title: Does any one experience Night sweats? Post by miakate on Jun 14th, 2010 at 4:48pm
Hi, I have finally been refferd to a neurologist after a mere 23 years of headaches!!! I have a MRI scan next Monday, just a quick question, I have been experiencing night sweats for the last four months average 3 times a week, is this a symptom of cluster headaches? I am out of a cycle at the moment but still having these sweats, does anybody else experience this?? My Dr said it could be related, but what would cause this??? Thanks xx :-?

I have had night sweats on occasion, not sure if it's CH related or not. Not sure what the cause is either. :-/

Same as Ginger...mine started in mid 40's. Don't recall them ever having a relationship to being on or off cycle.

I sweat heavily during an attack, but not otherwise.

Seriously.....Blake did have night sweats when he was on a lot of meds for CH. At least I blamed it on the heavy meds. Now that he's gone to the alternative treatment the night sweats are almost nonexistent.....so are the clusters.

Alternatives rule!!!! I have been a night sweater as long as I can remember. Prednisone made it the worst. I was actually throwing out pillows every six months because they get gross. I have been told it is blood pressure, medicine side effects, stress, aliens and everything in between. SO I keep my bedroom like a meat locker. My poor wife, God bless her, tolerates it by bundling up.

Night sweats can be related to midlife hormonal changes, and both men and women experience this. However, they can also be an indication of something much more serious. It's always good to let your GP know what's going on, especially if that symptom is accompanied by some other, like weight loss. Blessings!

Well, Like kate, my body can feel cold but I can still sweat quite a bit. Strange and frustrating.
It started about a year ago, frustratingly it started smelling really bad too :-[ I've lost a lot of weight recently, even had to take off my wedding ring since it didn't fit anymore so I hung it on my necklace, but anyways the doctors said the weightloss was probably due to topamax. I eat like crazy now and the wedding ring's back on. Strangely, the weather is getting warmer and warmer and I'm sweating less and less :o |

I can only say that during an attach I get very warm. Not so much sweaty, but I feel hot and have to put on the ceiling fan if I am home.

I've always had them as far as I can remember. They seem to run in the family, however I'm the only one with CHs.

Since we clusterheads have a messed up hypothalamus, which among other things controls body temperature, it could be CH related.
I have night sweats also. |

ive only gotten them this very last cycle, and with the attacks. Cold, but sweating like a pig, gotta have a fan on me or I will pass out.. then I throw up. always at the peak of the attack, and when my stomach settles down, so does the temp thing... then I get to finish the rest of the CH, which is downhill from there.

Thanks for all your replys, its so strange, my night sweats have stopped for the moment, they come and go without rhyme or reason!! When I mentioned them to my DR she seemed a little concerned, I've just had an MRI scan, so awaiting results. Maybe it is something to do with the hypothalamus??!! Anyway not in a cycle at the moment and its great, I hope I am diagnosed before the next attack.
Take care xxxxxx :) |

Interesting that I see a lot of myself in these posts. I, too, didn't really night-sweat until in my 40s. And I sweat like crazy during attacks. After a couple of bad nights during this recent cycle (which, I dare say, appears to be on the way out), my wife complained that the bedroom "reeked of man sweat". Weird thing about this cycle is that it is the first time I've had cold numbness around my face and head, while sweating. After the worst of the headaches passed (funny when 2 a day is a relief), I had heavy shadows all day long for about a week, with intermitent ice cold numbness on the right side of my face (my headache side), then jumping around the side and top of my head. Also getting neck aches for the first time. Don't you just love the surprises with CH!

While on prednisone, which I just started a taper, I get the night sweats like you wouldn't believe. It is borderline disgusting. I can actually be woken from beads of sweat running across my forehead. Pillows take a beating and are never cool enough. I have actually woke and could feel heat through thhe bottom of my pillows. Swear I am going to start sleeping on a block of ice.
