Here's more of an indication that the end is near.

June 15, 2010

MSNBC Trashes Obama's Address: Compared To Carter, "I Don't Sense Executive Command"

Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Howard Fineman react to President Obama's Oval Office Address on the oil spill. Here are the highlights of what the trio said:

Matthews compared Obama to Carter.

Olbermann: "Nothing specific at all was said."

Matthews: "No direction."

Howard Fineman: "He wasn't specific enough."

Olbermann "I don't think he aimed low, I don't think he aimed at all. It's startling."

Howard Fineman: Obama should be acting like a "commander-in-chief."

Matthews: Ludicrous that he keeps saying [Secretary of Energy] Chu has a Nobel prize. "I'll barf if he does it one more time."

Matthews: "A lot of meritocracy, a lot of blue ribbon talk."

Matthews: "I don't sense executive command."

Brew: "Touchdown Jesus burned to the ground last night. The end is, indeed, near."

Now back to your regular programming.

Even further evidence: Me too.

I was hoping for FDR and we got Carter or Clinton. Where's JFK, even Reagan, when you need him?

The speech seemed to simply lay out a willing commitment, mentioning gov involvement, resources utilized, as opposed to what no speech might have signified.

Quote:
We will fight this spill with everything we’ve got for as long as it takes.  We will make BP pay for the damage their company has caused.  And we will do whatever’s necessary to help the Gulf Coast and its people recover from this tragedy.

Tonight I’d like to lay out for you what our battle plan is going forward:  what we’re doing to clean up the oil, what we’re doing to help our neighbors in the Gulf, and what we’re doing to make sure that a catastrophe like this never happens again.

I make that commitment tonight.

First, the cleanup.

It might be unrealistic to expect the specifics involved as to what and how much can be accomplished before first meeting with the BP chairman to assess its committed financial support.  A battle plan may relate aspirations, not effectiveness or success, as has happened through history, which will leave room for criticism.

Quote:
... the second thing we’re focused on is the recovery and restoration of the Gulf Coast.

Tomorrow, I will meet with the chairman of BP

Speaking without first meeting, he has no commitment yet in stone to lay out the capable extent involved.  With the large figures looked for to be applied as needed, there may be "negotiations" for compromise.  I guess we'll see soon.

Quote:
Earlier, I asked Ray Mabus, the Secretary of the Navy, who is also a former governor of Mississippi and a son of the Gulf Coast, to develop a long-term Gulf Coast Restoration Plan as soon as possible.

I'd suppose the specifics of this are not yet comprehensibly written to be scrutinized.

Quote:
The third part of our response plan is the steps we’re taking to ensure that a disaster like this does not happen again.

A little late for this.  As they say about an ounce of prevention.

I asked Ellen what it would take to customize our dog--make her look like a peacock, say, or a great white shark.  (I only asked El, as she has had experience with this sort of thing.  She went through a "blue period" with her own hair.)

Apparently, we would have to bleach the dog first, since the dog is black.  This seemed wrong, so I've given the whole thing up as a bad job.

Best,

George

I'm impressed, Kevin.   :o  You managed to tie two completely disparate aspects of this thread into a neat, pink bow.   ;)  Applause.

Best,

George
