Title: Light up anyone?
Post by Charlie on Jun 22nd, 2010 at 8:59pm
New York State has raised its exise tax on tobacco another $1.60 per pack. That add on will make the average cost per pack $9.00 or so. New York City has its own $1.50 tax too so don't go shopping there unless you can afford $11 or so for your Marlboros.

This will make smuggling tobacco into the State (it's already big) even more profitable. My friend has a big van......Next, Indian reservations are targets for State tobacco taxes. This might get interesting.

This doesn't bother us self-righteous types and of course it is a "safe" way to raise cash. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

This is why I now use the electronic cigarette. A loop hole they have yet to close.

I neither smoke nor drink, but I find the "sin" tax to be more immoral than either smoking or drinking ever could be.  We have such gutless wonders that we keep electing.

$14.00 US for a pack of 25 over here.

Now I just hand my wallet (bill fold) over the counter & they take what they want, saves me the mental anguish :'(

Cheers

It's reasons ($) like this that make me glad that I'm a non-smoker now.

It's only a matter of time before we have illegal tobacco grow operations, complete with federal agents, and raids, and outlaws.   ::)

I'm sure that will make everything better.

Best,

George

This is funny...

Dad rolled his own...Prince Albert in the Can...which generated the first prank phone calls. "do you have Prince Albert in the Can? Yes? Wellllll...let him out...bwaaaaaaa-hahahahaha"

Anyway...Dad was meticulous. Every other morning, at the breakfast nook...with a tiny finger machine..he rolled 20 or so of the most perfect ciggies I have ever seen. The cat was fascinated...she parked herself on the stool next to him every time...and stared with abject admiration.

When I snuck the machine and "crimp cut" at midnite...and tried to roll my own...welll...let's just say it delayed my smoking habit for YEARS. Ever tried to puff on a stick? A few years later, my friends wouldn't allow me to roll joints either :P

If ya wanna quit...send me your tobaccy and papers....you won't be smoking anything I roll :D

Jon
