County Supervisor, Peggy West, dumbest politician east of the Mississippi

In a stunningly ignorant rant about Arizona’s  Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act (SB1070), Peggy West a county supervisor from Milwaukee WI, states in part ” If this were Texas a state that borders Mexico I would have to look twice at this, but it’s Arizona, a state that is removed from the border…” What adds insult to the injury of her stupidity is that she had listed one of her interests as Mexican history on her FaceBook page. The interest has since been removed.

Democrat County Supervisor Peggy West of Milwaukee is proud to be the "first Latino/Hispanic American to be elected to the Milwaukee County Board". During the debate on a measure boycotting the state of Arizona she asserts an uneasy knowledge of US geography.

Supervisor West is Latino. She was was named the 2004 Hispanic Woman of the Year by UMOS, Inc. and volunteers for UMOS, Inc. and Mexican Fiesta. 
She serves on the Hispanic Resource Center Advisory Board as well as the Cesar E. Chavez Drive Advancement Committee. 
She also serves on the Executive Committee of the Milwaukee Democratic Party.

It seems like they speak the same language (a language I haven't figured out yet).

It's located about somewhere between Alaska and Arkansas, even New Mexico is distant, alphabetically.

I had to google this to know that it is a beer.  Obviously this women has been drinking a lot of it.  There is no other explanation for this ignorance at all.  WoW..i don't even see where she can come back later after someone said "psst...um, uh, Arizona is a border state with Mexico"  and make this right.  There is NO way!

The basic concept of Geography should be a prerequisite for running for ANY office, be it at a state or federal level.

Generally Cheesehead refers to cheddar.  Her's obviously is Swiss.

"But this is a state that is a ways removed from the border and um, it just, it doesn't make sense to me that when you Google this subject, if you put in Arizona SB-1070, that you see a picture of the governor of Arizona meeting with President Obama in May of 2010. If you have direct linkage to the president, there are already National Guard troops on the border in Arizona."

County Board Delays Vote on Arizona Boycott

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee County Board spent part of the day debating a measure that would call for the county to boycott doing business with companies in Arizona.

Communities around the nation have passed similar measures in response to a law in Arizona that makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally.

There was an odd moment during the debate when Supervisor Peggy West stood up and seemed to be confused about her geography.

Her colleague, Joe Rice, quickly corrected her, "I just want to assure my colleague that Arizona does in fact share a border with the country of Mexico."

Senator Kyl Gives Supervisor Peggy West a Geography Lesson

Milwaukee County Supervisor Peggy West, who made a very public geographic blunder Thursday when voicing her support of a proposed county boycott of Arizona businesses during a county board meeting. Her opposition (and that of several other county board members) was based on the state's controversial new immigration law, which mandates that police stop and card those they reasonably suspect of being illegal immigrants.

Addressing the county board, West was caught on camera saying:

"If this was Texas, which is a state that is directly on the border with Mexico, and they were calling for a measure like this, saying that they had a major issue with, you know, undocumented people flooding their borders, I would have to look twice at this."

"But this is a state that is a ways removed from the border."

During and immediately following West's statement, there was an audible murmur from those assembled. Fellow County Supervisor Joe Rice jumped in and politely informed West that "Arizona does, in fact, share a border with the country of Mexico."

U.S. Sen. "You will be interested to learn that Arizona does indeed share a border with Mexico. I have enclosed a map for your convenience."
" I hope you will take the time to actually read the Arizona law before formulating an opinion about it and become familiar with our country's geography and the challenges that our border states face."

Attached to the letter was a photocopied map of the United States, unlabeled, with the state of Arizona highlighted in bright yellow and an arrow pointing to it followed by "Arizona."
