Was going to catch a red-eye tonight and get there ~10am tomorrow, but it looks like my flight has been delayed and we may miss the connection - may not be there until the afternoon tomorrow - fun, fun - spend midnight till the afternoon getting to GA. Seems to me it only took 5 hrs last time I went. ::)

I just walked in the door at home. Gave Linda a big hug and came to say I'm homesick already! Haven't taken a look at the pics yet, but will shortly. Just wanted to say thanks to all who were there for the great time and for all that was done. those of you who missed it need to start planning now for next year! We're going back to our roots in New York. Put $10 a week aside and you should be in good shape for then.

We had some newbies there, in fact, a couple of them were so new they haven't even gotten on here yet, but they came and were great to get to know. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more of them in the future.

Thanks to everyone for the fun and camaraderie. It was another wonderful convention (from this supporter's view). It wonderful to reacquaint with old friends and usher new friends into the fold.

There is nothing better than seeing the awe on a noob's face when he/she realizes he/she has come home . . . finally.

Speaking as a first-time participator, OUCH 2010 I can see already is going to be a pivot in my life. I can already feel the enormous weight of guilt lifted from so many aspects of my life -- In all of my interactions with with people around me, It is not just ME and CH and more, but now there are real people and faces and names out there who I know share the same realities of dealing with this moster on a day-to-day basis. Just as a FYI to explain the references I made to "Live long and prosper" and a couple of others did that too..

Dr. Goadsby, it would seem is a Star Trek fan. He started out his presentation talking about it and made a lot of comparisons and analogys during his talk.

Besides being a brilliant Dr., a wonderful advocate for us...I had forgotten how darn funny he is. British humour and all. LOL

Skip the barrel, but if you do go, make sure you go to the base of the American falls as you get to stand within feet of where the water lands. You really do get to see and appreciate the true power of the water, even if you get soaked as you do it. I enjoyed that much more than the trip on the Maid of the Mist.

Sanna - Just convince your supporter that he needs to see more of the world - and a trip to Niagara and the US, no matter what the reason, is an excellent way to do that!! :) You can come over for longer than the convention and visit other places if you want - like Philadelphia for instance, hint hint... ;)

Interesting you should mention this. We supporters (mostly wives and girlfriends) but sometimes husbands or boyfriends would like to see some organized activities for us at a convention. Usually we just go shopping or exploring by ourselves. That's fine if someone knows the area and what's to see and do in a reasonable distance, but other times it's not so fine.

I know I and several other supporters would be willing to pay the whole convention fee if we got a bus trip or some other organized activity out of the convention. I have never been interested in hearing the speakers simply because I've done so much personal research and lived with CH so long (as a supporter) that it's nice to get away from it, even if it IS the reason we are all together. In St Louis last year, the hotel shuttle drivers were willing to take three of us MILES out to shopping and activities. Atlanta, the shuttle drivers took us to the Airport to catch the train to points further out.

Perhaps someone familiar with the area (in this case Rochester) could put together a list of activities and sites available to supporters without:
a) breaking the bank, and
b) spending a day driving in an unfamiliar area with little time for the fun part.

Maybe breaking said activities out into "age appropriate" types of outings, too (ie the over 50 crowd, supporters with young children, etc.).

I know enough about how non-profits work that usually the person who brings up the project spear heads it. I can't do it in this case simply because I'm not familiar with Rochester. Surely someone nearby can make this their contribution to 2011's convention?

I know that Esa has not seen the Niagra Falls - he did visit area nearby though. He has been to America twice: he studied for a few months in a university (as exchange student, I can't recall the state) and then he visited Florida for a conference.

When we will come to US, we will stay a bit longer than just a week. I have Philly in my list... ;)

To all of you who could not attend the Atlanta convention, the pictures you have seen of Dr. Larry Schor do not do him justice.

He is a whole lot hotter than that! ;)

Plus, he is one of the nicest, most giving of his time to help clusterheads, and one who brought several of his grad students to "just help out" at his own expense.

As a clusterhead himself, I personally think he gave more than he got in Atlanta.

Did I mention he was HOT? 8-)

While I will not join this discussion reference the "hotness" factor... ;D....

What a wonderful man. Great talk, and he facilitated a round table discussion with all the sufferers and our supporters. And the 4 grad students he brought along with him....they volunteered their time to help any way they could for the convention....and as future therapists...to learn all they could about our "unique" malady. GREAT bunch of kids, my hats off to them and the good doctor!

What Joe said! It was my second time to hear him and to participate in the round table (sans table), and I came away feeling a whole lot better. To be able to discuss what is going on with others who really understand is so cathartic.

The "kids" he brought along wwere totally awesome. They were looking for things to do to help and were always asking good questions about CH and how we deal with it. I think they will all be better therapists for it, even if they don't go in to the profession.

Lots of butts at both the front and back entrances - no smoking in the public areas of the hotel. Linda and I stayed up quite late smoking and chatting outside one of the doors!

I will be completing a convention report as soon as I get a space to breathe. As some of you know, we went through a harrowing time this past week with my daughter and that has been a major roadblock with me getting anything done. I'm also trying to play catch-up with my work load (that I got absolutely no help with from my supervisor during my family crisis).
