Before the ATL convention I banged my right rib cage, seemed to be getting better. When I got back from ATL it got worse so I went to my Dr, who thought I cracked a rib.

Wed I got a call from my Doctor saying the xray showed the ribs were fine but an abnormality showed up and we need to do a CT scan on 8/3. The radiology report says "nodular opacities projecting over the mid fifth rt posterior rib and just below the 7th posterior lateral rib, CT recommended."

Scarey stuff, but the Dr said it may be nothing. I know it's quite painful so far, but not a Cluster.

Had a similar experience...they are oh so cautious now...wish there was a better way to present....had one doc tell me he wished radiologists would just shut the hell up and send the films...

Thank you to all you fine folks. The prayers & vibes must be working as the pain has reduced a lot. Tomorrow morn is my CT scan and I should have the results Wed.

My wife and daughter both work for the Hospital so I'll most likely have the results before the Dr.

Had the CT scan yesterday, 3 hours later my Dr's office called and had me come in to tell there are multiple nodules in my lungs but don't appear to be cancer. Went to see a Pulmonary Dr today.

Not sure what it is but we're doing a Bronchoscopy on Fri. Possible fungal infection, may be our birds and past long term use of Prednisone for CH.

The Dr said most people are sicker in similar conditions. Guess I'm lucky there. Thanks for reading.

The good news is what I have is NOT contagious. What I have is called Aspergillosis that includes around 100 possible molds, that exist in many ways. We are exposed daily.

Most likely, during my last high & long dose of Prednisone, my immune system was lowered making it more likely to contract this. Still may be our birds, smoking or outside influence.

The specialist is insisting I quit smoking and get rid of the birds. Once the final tests are complete, treatment will begin.

I love all of you, my great friends from this site, and your care has been felt, and prayers have done the job.

We have arranged a new home for the birds but to be honest this makes me more sad than being ill.

Hi Don sorry to hear about the birds, it is hard to give up a pet no matter how small they become part of our family but if your health is at risk you have to do it and I am sure you found them a good home and maybe you can visit them. I am so glad that you will be OK and this is not a major thing, hope the treatment works fast and if you quit smoking just think of all the money you will save. :)

The birds left Monday and took a part of my heart with them. We had them for 10 yrs and they were our babies. We can go see them but.......

I'm waiting for a call from the Doctor about the final results and what treatment. The following is a lab report we obtained that hasn't been confirmed by the Dr.

"Culture yields: Rhinocladiella species, Paecilomyces species. No Nocardia isolated to date." So I'm, not so patiently, waiting for the Dr.

Don - So very sorry about having to give up the birds... :(  Can't recall what you said - do you also do any gardening?  Paecilomyces is commonly found in soil.  Not as sure about the Rhinocladiella.  I hope they're able to clear it up for you quickly.  Did the docs say if you'd ever be allowed to have the birds again once better?  Especially if it's the course of prednisone that brought it on?  I know it must be heartbreaking for you and Helen. :(

Don, I am SO sorry to hear this.  ~hugs~ for having to give up your birds.  The first thing I thought when I heard "fungus" and "birds" was histoplasmosis.  I've a friend fighting this one, though an antifungal (fluconazole) seems to be helping. 

Sending heaps of vibes this is something cleared up easily and quickly....  and hoping your birds will be able to come back home.   [smiley=heart.gif]

I do miss the little pooping birds, I guess you can say they were a major part of our lives. The hardest part is knowing they're not being treated the same as we spoiled them.

I still don't have an answer about if or what treatment I'll go thru. On 8/18 I spoke with the Dr who said the final results weren't in yet. I left a msg on 9/1 and got a msg from the Nurse saying the Dr discussed the Broncoscopy results. Damn, I'm feeling ill and still have pain but...

From what I've read it's common that no treatment is used and watchful waiting is used. But let me know please.
