Title: Oxygen is helping
Post by joedell71 on Aug 10th, 2010 at 6:10pm
I got my first delivery of oxygen last week on fri. While it has not totally eradicated ole PUTA MADRE( what I have affectionately taken to calling the beast the time around) It does help with aborting sometimes. I still have to use imitrex some of the time but not as much as before which is good because my belly was starting to look like a well used voodoo doll lol. I have also started experimenting with red bull and other energy drinks for aborting an attack. My procedure is one that giuseppe suggested which is when I feel one coming on I get right to the oxygen if I can and crack open a red bull and start sipping in between breaths of oxygen. It works most of the time but like I said I still have to use imitrex maybe 2 out of 5 times but I'm not complaining because ANY reduction in either frequency or intensity is a welcome relief in my book.

Thanks and PF days and nights to all
Joe

Great to hear the oxygen is helping!! Since getting 02 at home in 2005 (thanks to advice from this site) I've found it easier and easier to abort in less time.  I think part of the difference is just feeling more in control.  I hope things continue to improve for you!  And wish you lots of pf time ahead  :)

That's great news Joe. Did you get a good non-rebreather mask too? The high flow and good mask will help, hopefully you can save the Imitrex for emergencies when you're away from  your tanks. Although, once you get the magic O2 you learn to carry it with you everywhere you go!

That is great news! I am concerned with one thing, though. You said you sip Red Bull "in between" O2 breaths. Be careful with that. The idea is to enter into hypoxia, and any room air can slow that process down or even prevent it. Try chuggin as much energy drink as you can, or switch to something like "5 Hour" if you can't slam one, and then stick with the deep breathing without letting room air break your O2 regimen. Hyperventilating can be hard work but it's the surest way to abort a hit in under 10 minutes. God bless! lance
