Title: Am I naive ? Post by Headache Boy uk on Aug 19th, 2010 at 7:36am
I'm on holiday at Butlins in skegness which is grate .....but I can't believe how selfish people are .
There's lots of shows for the kids going on but the adults are taking up all the front seats at the venus and standing up so none of the kids can see , not to mention all the pushing and shoving. Am I really naive or has society relay become so selfish ?? It makes me sad to think that adults would push kids out of the way so that they could see a kids show . >:( Nigel |

On the average, on the whole, for the most part, adults in contemporary society have a lot more growing up to do than did their predecessors.

True.
Society as a whole could stand a hefty shot of good manners. It's supposed to be up to us to teach this to children. It would be easier if we knew what we're doing. Charlie |

I know that we're now in a me me me society , but I always thought that it was a minority of people who acted like this , obviously I was wrong.
It seems that basic manners and politeness have no place in society any more. It makes me so sad. :'( Is this just a UK thing or is this happening in other country's too ? Praying that people will at least have a little more respect for one another. Nigel edit ps we're back home now . All said we've had a good holiday, but it's good to be home.....comfy bed etc. |

You don't get out much, do you? ;D No, it's not limited to the UK. (Insert favorite boorish French joke here) Again, just kidding. Very, very prevalent across the US as well. |

actually no I don't :D I would say where most of the people were from but I wouldn't want to offend any one by stereotyping and I know from previous holidays in that area that they are not all like that . so maybe it is just a minority and they were all at butlins this week :) Nigel |

I guess not everyone learned politeness in their childhood years.
Like being a newby in junior high and finding vacant seats at the talent show, in front of the school's older tuffs. "Get the fuck out of my sight before I shove that chair up your a$$" It was simply polite to move, and rewarding for the added entertainment from a more distant view hearing their humorous cut-up remarks shouted throughout. A chance meeting at the playfield. "Gimme your bike, your glove and bat." Tolerance is learned waiting until they were done using your bike as a backstop and glove for first base. It can be a tuff job teaching consideration for others. |

No Nigel you are not naive.
I had a hard time just seeing my own son graduate from High School years ago because of the same type of thing. People moving from their seats, standing directly in front of us taking pics and not moving when done, ticked me off. I finally had to go stand in an Isle to see and take my own pics. You'd think the others would have thought of the same thing but NOOOOOOO. At Least I stayed out of others way! My Grandmother taught me to be polite the old fashioned way a good smack up side the head and a stern talking to! :D |

Unfortunately, it's quite common here in the states.
I'm 64 years old. I was taught general common manners by my mother. I taught those same manners to my two daughters. They now have children of their own who are one almost 3 and the other 2-1/2. I can only hope that my daughters pass on the manners that they were taught to my granddaughters. Sandy |

In the UK at least it seems ,most parents don't care what there kids are up to . I don't think it helps with the government giving big subsidies for child care for working couples ( which I understand cos unless your in a top top job in this country you need two incomes to afford a house ) but it means parents feeling guilty about dumping their kids on a childminder for most of their lives spoil them and let them get away with murder or they just see their kids as an inconvenience and ignore them.
so it's no-wonder things are going tits up , maybe the government should instead be subsidising mums / dads who stay at home and bring up their kids properly ??? Nigel |
