More and more I'm understanding the NEED for Democrats AND Republicans...
without the Dems WHAT in the world would the Reps have to TALK about? ;) |

The wonders of cable television to create content. I'll guess Donna Reed's been replaced in the popular viewing times.

We ought to let Democrats and Republicans yell and scream at each other.
...while we let Libertarians run the government. |

Since I stopped listening to hate talk radio, hate TV talk shows, stopped reading the paper except for stories about Lakeside and my Padres!!! ;D, stopped reading all of those horrible e-mail forwardings slamming the various political parties...... I am relaxed, my blood pressure is down, my tummy doesn't hurt...and suprise of suprises....the sun continues to rise and set with startling regularity :) Joe's take on politics! |

Has anybody seen the latest news about the new insurance plan to cover people with pre-existing conditions (PCIP plan)?
For starters - I have pre-existing conditions. CH is one, but I also have had knee replacement and will at some point have to have the other knee replaced. I have been flatly denied coverage under any circumstances, or offered a policy that won't cover anything that happens to my head or my legs - even an auto accident, or offered a policy so highly rated that I cannot afford it. Consequently, I am now insured for catastrophic care only - required hospital admission (ER does not count). My catastrophic care still won't cover either my head or legs in case I crashed up in an accident. From what I've read so far, the fed govt will handle the insurance plan for some states, and the rest of the states will run their own plans. In order to qualify, you must have a pre-existing condition - verified in writing by your doctor. You may not have had any insurance at all for at least six months (a policy that just excludes your pre-existing condition still qualifies as "insurance" so that would make you ineligible). Plus, you will need a letter in writing from an insurance company who denied you coverage due to your pre-existing condition. Costs: On the fed plan, a person under 35 years old could pay as much as $12,000 per year to get this coverage. I ran the numbers for myself - age 64 in NC (state run plan - not fed). My monthly premium could be as much as $729 per month. Plus at minimum, a $2,500 deductible for everything - there is NO payment at all, including prescriptions, until this deductible is met other than preventative visits - like annual mammogram, annual physical, etc. Then, I pay 20% of all charges (other than preventative visits) until I reach an out of pocket (not including the $2,500 deductible) of $5,950. Doing the math, if I applied for this PCIP coverage, I would pay $7,707 annual for my premium + $2,500 annual deductible + $5,950 in co-pay = $17,198 annually until 2014 when Obamacare would kick in. Then, supposedly it would be what???". By that time I would be on Medicare, if Medicare is even still there. I would be better off just doing a pay-as-you-go than even thinking of applying for this crap. I really feel sorry for the people that bought into the Obama health insurance plan thinking that they were going to finally be covered and it would cost them either nothing or next to nothing. God I HATE it when I go politically ballistic! My apologies. Sandy |

Yeah, every time someone started trying to convince me the health care reform was a good idea, I just told them:
You are relying on the federal government to take care of you. If that didn't scare the hell out of them, I figured they were too un informed to even bother arguing with them! ;D Joe |

Sounds like an iffy blog Barb. Anyway....
Noting those who went off the deep end to try to kill and dilute the health insurance bill, shows me that eventually, we did the right thing. Oh, Birthers are still at it...... As Daniel Patrick Moynihan said: "People are entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts." Charlie |

Ya wanna hear something really funny (well maybe NOT so funny). I just got a life insurance policy (or rather my kids did on me).. Well, I had to have a physical... The results.. all the tests were better than what my kids' results would have been (I'm HEALTHY for goodness sakes!) the only thing that spiked at all was nicotine and that wasn't even out of range.
But they had given me a "price" on the insurance. THEN they pulled my medical records and the price went up when they got my neuro records because of the CH. Only $20, but I thought that was funny... Not a damn thing wrong except my head (not fatal and not going to be fatal any time soon). For the last (I don't even know how many years) I've visited my neuro twice a year, taken the same meds (two scripts) and not shown (on the record) ANY problems, but because of the damn CH - I have to pay higher premiums on LIFE insurance. The only way I can see to get EVEN with these jerks is to DIE and that's a little drastic... :) |

Charlie, there's one person and one person alone responsible for the Birther movement: Obama himself. Obama can end the Birther controversy in one single day by releasing the original documents, but for some inexplicable reason he refuses, and the love-struck media never ask him why... |

Charlie,
How long are you going to fall for this fraud? Why are these Obama documents off limits to Americans, especially in light of what was supposed to be the most transparent administration in American history? 1. Certified copy of original birth certificate 2. Columbia University transcripts 3. Columbia thesis paper 4. Campaign donor analysis requested by 7 major watchdog groups 5. Harvard University transcripts 6. Illinois State Senate records 7. Illinois State Senate schedule 8. Law practice client list and billing records/summary 9. Locations and names of all half-siblings and step-mothers 10. Medical records (only the one page summary released so far) 11. Occidental College Transcripts 12. Parent’s marriage Certificate 13. Record of baptism 14. Selective Service registration records 15. Schedules for trips outside of the United States before 2007 16. Scholarly articles 17. List of all campaign workers that are lobbyists 18. Punahou grade school records (Indonesia) I hope and pray that one day you will learn the truth about this guy - and what he's really trying to do to America. |

I'm with Charlie... if there was anything there... Hillary would have found it two years ago. With everything else that's going on in the world today... I just can't see him worrying about stuff like this. Lordy, I don't know if "I" could find my parents marriage license. Lordy, back in the 40s and 50s people were yelling just as loud about the Jews, Catholics and Communists (for those of us who were around when Kennedy was running - THE POPE WAS GOING TO TAKE OVER THE GOVERNMENT IF HE GOT ELECTED - he did and as far as I know the Pope is still in Rome!). Of course back then we didn't have 24 hour news coverage and blogs and e-mails and all that spewing hatred... we had to do it in the newspapers and word of mouth... But it was the same hate that's being spewed today... McCarthy was wrong and ruined a lot of lives... what's going on today is as wrong as McCarthy was back in his day. We're supposed to be the UNITED States.. |

Because I think it's sad that Republicans allow this to go on. It used to be that GOP prided itself on being the grownups and the party of restraint. What we are seeing now is the corrosive influence of Tea Party populism on the conservative mind. There's a plot behind every policy, doom over every horizon. They have no alternatives so they have to settle on picking apart Obama. Charlie |

You will notice that nobody in the Republican party who has any amount of influence has asked these questions publicly. They all have them, but even Democrats are starting to ask themselves the same questions. Look to see how many unhitch their carts from the horse in the next 75 days.
"Allow this to go on." Humbug. There is way too much we don't know about this guy, and shame on the sheeple for electing him. We'll find out more as time goes on. Especially after November. |

It's the Democrats fault for not kicking Obama around a bit. The effect is that they've allowed the far right inmates of the asylum to set the ajenda.
One can only hope that fewer Americans will choose to shoot themselves in the foot than has been projected. Where does such passionate attachment to wild fantastic beliefs of say, birthers, come from? Must be what I call: Faith-Based Intelligence. Charlie |

Somewhere along way, Republicans turned toward evangelism. Conservatives were made into what they abhor: political activists. Fear rather than Republican theory is now central to the cause and the only way toward salvation. They have created a political culture in which compromise is impermissible. There is no room on the planet for other points of view. It would be blasphemy to suggest that the left, even on their side of the aisle, aren't agents of Satan. The result is politics without humor. We wind up with conservative puritans looking to force out anyone suggesting interpretation. These are not fun people to around. It's they who have made Congress into a place that Americans find as much fun as a root canal. If anyone on the right veers a bit toward the center, he loses his license. That is corrosive. Charlie. |
