It was a special time.  Joyce gave me a kitchen pass to go fishing in Ketchikan Alaska for 4 days with my cousin and brother-in-law so I got to spend my birthday enjoying one of my favorite activities.

Lots of rain when we pulled out at 06:00 and the wind picked up at 07:00 and blew until noon...  Then the wind and rain stopped and the sun came out...  it went from miserable to flat calm and beautiful in less than 10 minutes...  That's Alaska...

The first morning's catch was the best...  Five Silver Salmon and one Pink adding up to 45 lbs of fresh salmon.

We were feeling quite proud of ourselves until a Halibut Charter pulled up...  We had wanted to go that morning, but the boat was booked up several weeks in advance.

All six members of the party got their two halibut limit with an aggregate weight of over 80lbs of halibut per person.  Two of the halibut were over 100lbs.  This one weighed in at 114lbs and was easily worth $1000.   

I'm ready to go back.

I've fishes Ketchikan, Inner Harbor.....once you've fished Alaska all you can think about is getting back there again! Some beautiful fish there Batch, that barn door halibut is a thing of beauty!

Batch, I haven't been by the site for quite some time, but was going to say "hi" - and this thread caught my attention, and so even thought it's belated, I wanted to say I'm glad you had a GREAT birthday!  A life definitely worth celebrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
