On the other hand..........having been deployed in a jail riot situation.....our current options are the baton, sting ball grenades, chemical agents, shock shields, Taser's, non lethal projectiles......you get the point, all of them cause pretty severe injuries. Our options are to engage with those, or let them kill each other....which they literally do with alarming efficiency and regularity!!
Get your point about politicians and know you was just making a funny!!! ;D But I get really excited about these non lethal interventions that mean one less deputy has to go hands on with these twits!!! Joe |

What a legal minefield this creates. Overturned wrongfully convicted prisoner suits (right or wrong, the suits will go on) and endless Constitutional challenges.
Better off to let us have remote pain devices imbedded in every legislator's nether regions when shit like this is considered. Charlie |

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOUR SECOND PARAGRAPH!! ;D You do have such a way with words Charlie! ;D I have a couple of issues with this pain beam method... Does cooking someone with a low level Microwave device sound humane ? No, at least not in my book. Granted they are for now only using it on prisoners but that could change in the future and as much as it pains me to say it even prisoners have rights. I have a feeling that in years to come that there's going to be a issue with this either via lawsuits from prisoners or illegal/inhumane use of this device. As to Charlies comment on constitutional challenges our own legislates are doing a bang up job challenging various parts of the constitution for years now. None of 'em like it when the constitution is waved in front of them. |

Last post I promise!!! ;D (I know...yeah right) The problem is what are the options?? Many of these inmates are doing life without parole. They really don't care any more....what can the guards do, threaten them with ANOTHER life without parole sentence? When we go hands on, inmates are hurt, and guards are hurt. Both cost you, the taxpayer, a lot of money. And the inmates liek it, every guard they put out on diability, gives them more status. If you don't want us to hurt them at all, give us enough money, we'll put every prisoner in his own little cell, with 2 guards to watch them. Then there will never be anothe riot, fight, assault, or rape in prison!But oh my, that WILL cost you. Or, give us the tools to handle these animals......and trust me...these people aren't like the actors you see in Shawshank redemption, or those stupid HBO movies, where they all have this code of honor crap, they are animals. With these and similar tools, we will continue to keep control of these animals, with a ratio which often exceeds over 200 inmates to each on duty guard!!! Joe |

Joe,
You said a mouthful there and I agree 1000%. I watch National Geographic and the History Channel and both have done series on prisons. I don't know that I could be a guard in a prison, sometimes the inmates are better armed than the guards are, at least with more lethal weapons anyway (shanks are right nasty). Try some of these prisons on for size United States Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility (ADX) Florence, Colorado Rikers Island San Quentin Leavenworth Angola United States Penitentiary Marion IL Maricopa County - Tent City (AZ) Sing Sing Atlanta Federal Penitentiary BUT!!!!! The US prisons are equal to a stay at the Ritz Carlton compared to the prisons to the south of the border and in certain foreign countries (I've gotten hooked on *Locked Up Abroad). |

[smiley=crackup.gif] @ Charlies post!
Joe I completely understand where you are coming from as a guards perspective and can empathize. ;) Face it the system if you can call it that is Broken, or is it the people in it?... |

Wonder if this device is something a person can learn to fight through--just as it's possible to fight through getting hosed with OC spray.
Won't be long before they figure it out, if it can be done. Best, George |
