I never thought about it before, but I took the survey and it asked about head trauma before getting Clusters.  My Clusters started at age 8, about a year after I had my first surgery in my life.  I had my adenoids removed.  Considering the proximity, I wonder if that had anything to do with it.  Has anyone else had this experience?

It's a tough one to figure out. The majority of people who take the survey remember suffering head trauma of some sort as a child. On the other hand, the vast majority of people, with or without CH, can recall some fairly significant head trauma as they grew up!

Most of the suspicion points to a screwed up hypothalamus. The doctor at the last convention convinced me it's something you're born with. In sets of identical twins with CH...not only do both of the identical twins develop it, they both would start the initial onset at roughly the same time. The odds of both twins having somehow suffered identical head trauma are pretty slim.

Now if they can just figure out how to un screw up our hypothalamous... ;)

Twins that both get them at the same time?  I knew about the hypothalamus theory and that you're probably born with it, but that little tidbit might be the perfect answer for the MIL. :-X Worth a try, anyway.  Thanks Joe!

KCDizzy, I'm really sorry to hear that you've had them since you were 8.  If it brings a grown man to his knees, I can't imagine what it does to a child. :'( For what it's worth, my BF's started at age 19 and it's been 19 years, but no head trauma, no surgeries.
