Hard to believe but the stars are out here...east of the Raleigh/Durham area will get some rain and wind. ClusterChuck is where the bulk of the inland rain is at the moment. Even with the storm weakening, the Outer Banks isn't the place to be tonight. Jenn in Virginia will also be feeling some effects of Earl later tonight.....

We're about 60 miles inland from Cape Cod. This is a big sucker no doubt about it. Used to live in FL so hurricanes aren't a mystery to me. What is a mystery is when folks say, oh it's just a cat 1, no big deal. Those gusts from a cat 1 can threaten to tear the roof off your house. I know. And the flooding...omg. Anyway, thanks for the pic. Nice to look your enemy in the "eye" so to speak. God bless and prayers to all who are in the way of this trainwreck. lance

Saturday afternoon I'm headed with Andrea out to do some food shopping. Just the two of us. Earl passed through last night without much to show for it. We're on this great road I like to take to avoid traffic. It's hilly and twisty and tree lined. But I'm obeying the local laws and just enjoying the day and some light conversation.
Then we see it. An old dead branch about 20' long and a foot thick at the base twisting away from a tree overhead. I dive left and nail the accelerator but not fast enough. Damn branch lands on my passenger side roof with a sickening bang. The pillars hold so no one is hurt thank God. However my antenna is snapped and there are gouges and scratches on the roof, rear deck and spoiler. I guess this is what we pay insurance for. Anyway, I'll find out on Tuesday. -Dennis- |

Anytime you can walk away from an experience like that and be in one piece is good.
