Title: End of a cycle?? Post by Gina2 on Sep 6th, 2010 at 2:33pm
Hi,
Im new to cluster headaches and only i my first cycle of attacks. Ive been getting 2 attacks per day lasting 4hrs for the last 8 weeks. This week they have calmed down alot only getting one attack very few days and been able to get rid of it within 30mins using my pain meds and red bull. Just wondering if this could mean that Im coming to the end of this cycle or if I just being tricked?? |

That's how mine end...they do the slow fade. Hoping it's the same for you.

That's how mine do as well...then suddenly stop one day. I am wondering why/if you have a cluster headache for 4 hours!!! What are you using?

The standard rule around here seems to be two weeks pain free. That's when folks begin to taper off preventatives.

Hi,
Well day 4 and no headaches fingers crossed its on its way out. :) Joni only just found out that its cluster headaches as for treament haven't really found anthing that really helps yet. Can't take Triptans because of family heart problems and have just stated on a preventative but it looks like its on its way out. Did find that Red bull help cut the attack short. |

Two headaches a day lasting FOUR hours!!!!
Oh my God, that sounds like hell. The longest attack I have had was in this cluster, it lasted 3 hours and I was like death warmed up for hours after it. Usually my attacks last on average for one hour, twice a day, I can't imagine what 8 hours a day would be like. It sounds like you are on the downslope, I am in this stage at the moment, I had two mild attacks last night that lasted about 20 - 30 minutes, they were painful enough to wake me up but I could get back to sleep pretty quickly afterwards. I usually wait two weeks without any symptoms before I celebrate the end of another cycle with a nice cold beer, that beer is sipped very carefully with the slightest eye twitch sending a shiver down my spine ;) Heres hoping that you are on your way to seeing the back of the beast for a while |

Hi Gina - it sure sounds like your episode is coming to an end. Phew!
Make sure to read up here on all the things that can be done to keep this CH beast at bay and start putting together your arsenal before any future episode starts ramping up - you could potentially have a lot less horrifying experience next time (if there is a next time). |

Jeeber makes a great point. When you're getting creamed all you can think of is I want a fast fix...everything else is pain and frustration.
As soon as the cycle ends......take a bunch of time to start doing research....get a good relationship with a doc and an oxygen supply house. When my cycle starts, I already have an 8 pack of E-Tanks that stay in the garage year round, and I'm always stocking up on Imitrex and my prevent, lithium and my transitional med, prednisone. So when a cycle starts, I call my neuro and schedule an appointment a month or so away. Start my prednisone taper while ramping up on my lithium. Already have my 02 and my trex for break thru's. A month later when I can finally get in to see my neuro, we do blood work and update all my prescriptions. Beats getting caught with nothing and spending that first month begging for cancellation appointmnets, trying to get by on coffee and red bull! ;) Joe |

:) :) :) Think my cycle is definitely coming to its end only had 1 attack within 10 days and that only lasted about 25 mins after drinking a red bull.
Gonna use my time now preparing for the return and make sure I'm ready for it this time. Hopefully it will be a long break. |

Be prepared, but don't get caught up in the preparation. You'll miss out on too much if you do.
