Title: First CH whilst at work
Post by Mike NZ on Sep 13th, 2010 at 5:13pm
Until the last couple of weeks I've been lucky in that when I get a CH it's been in the late evening at about 9.45pm, which is a pretty good time as it means I get to enjoy my sleep and it doesn't interfere with work. However since I've moved to using verapamil as my preventitive (which works a LOT better than the nortriptyline I'd previously been using) it seems as if the arrival time of the beast has been semi-randomized, arriving anywhere from mid-afternoon to the previous usual time.

Yesterday was the first day I was in the office when the beast called in the early afternoon, luckily it was only a Kip 5. I was really impressed by how those around me handled it. One person came over to check if I was alright and another asked if I'd got my Red Bull or if he needed to go out to grab one quick. Other than that people carried on as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened and just waited until I was back to my normal self about 15 minutes later before asking questions, both work and CH related.

What had helped a lot is that I'd talked to people before, explained what might happen and pointed them to places where they could read more about it, which people had done.

People were amazed at how it looked to be really terrible whilst I explained how that was a mild one. I also got a lot of questions all about CH.

I'm also a lot more relaxed about having more CHs whilst at work as this was something I really was not looking forward to, although a Kip 10 will be an eye opener for them (luckily I don't get too many of them).

Good move paving the road ahead of time so they didn't think you were dying! I like their reaction, sounds like you've got some great co-workers. [smiley=thumb.gif]

Sorry you got hit at work Mike.  But you handled it well by handling it in advance.  Nice job.

Before I got the Gene back in his bottle I was getting two a day at the office for two weeks.  Got a lot of questions from those that hadn't seen it before.  Other than that it was business as usual.

Never let the beast tell you what you can and can't do!

You work with a great bunch!  Please tell them so for me!

I wish all of us had that kind of experience with jobs/co-workers.  You did an excellent job preparing them though, and that obviously made a big difference.

I've been getting to where I can be around people at church now when having hits.  For several years I was staying away during normal hit times, but now enough know what is going on that I just go on anyway.  I usually stay in the lobby so I don't have to get up and leave a service, and there is a room I can go hide in for a bad one, so I understand how it feels to be seen getting hit in public, esp around people you have to deal with on a normal basis.
