Title: Taurine and Vitamin B6 Post by wimsey1 on Sep 17th, 2010 at 7:51am
We're having such good luck with energy drinks, and since I
haven't seen a post on this, I thought I'd jump in with a little info: Taurine is a non-essential amino acid and is found in high concentrations in the white blood cells, skeletal muscles, central nervous system as well as the heart muscles. In adults, but not children, this nutrient can be manufactured from methionine in the body and from cysteine in the liver, but vitamin B6 must be present. This nutrient is also used in the proper use of potassium, calcium as well as sodium in the body, and for maintaining cell membrane integrity. It is thought to be helpful with anxiety, hyperactivity, poor brain function and epilepsy as well as hydrating the brain. Taurine, together with zinc is also required for proper eye health and vision. Vitamin B6 is required by the body to synthesize this nutrient from other nutrients. All kinds of interesting stuff here. B6 for its absorbtion and calcium for its proper use. Zinc. No mention of magnesium but we know this can be deficient in some CHs. So far, I haven't found any down sides to energy drinks, except for mixing them overly much with verapamil. Hope this helps! lance |

Grate post Lance
It's good to see some research on energy drinks , we drink them cos they help but it's always good to know how I do know that if you drink three within a matter of 4-5 hours it makes you feel a bit weird . but it's still better than shadows . God bless Nigel |
