Welcome aboard Bill,
8oz is probably enough to at least knock back a hit to a lower level. No, it is not used as a preventative. You use it as an abortive at the first sign of an oncoming attack. The sooner you get to it the more effective it will be. What you want to find is at least 1000mg of Taurene. The brand doesn't matter. That is just taste. My preference is the 5hr Energy in the 2 oz bottles because they don't mess up my stomach as badly as the others, plus it is much easier to slam down 2 oz than 8 or 16. It also doesn't seem to give the crash later that some of the others give. Your personal taste and choice is all there is to it. Jerry |

A few people do use it for prevention... one Aussie here kept pretty good headache diaries and records of what he took, and he felt pretty secure that it helped him (although it was not a controlled scientific study). Tablets or powder are much cheaper than any of the beverages, although not as fact acting as having it dissolved ahead of time in a beverage. Japanese studies on taurine involving humans (investigating blood pressure and overactive nervous systems) involved 3 to 6 grams per day for several months, with no observed side effects. |

Thanks Monty. I had forgotten about that. Haven't heard of anyone else having success with it though, but I may wll have missed it. Primarily it is used as an abortive though.

We've also kicked around whether or not the volume (large can, small can) and carbonation has an effect on absorbtion rate. I don't know scientifically, but I can say I have much better results chugging a 16oz-er than I do when I down the small bottle of Monster or a 5Hr Energy drink. Anything to this? Blessings. lance

It has really helped me with my shadowing... or at least I feel that it has helped..
I prefer Rip-It.... it's cheap ($1.00 for 16oz)... and is sweeten with Splenda... They now sell Splenda in the 2FL oz shot bottles.. I bought one, but realize that I could only use it for decoration. it only have 100mg or Taurine and a 100mg or caffeine.. Lady Luv |

I also use Rip-It, definitely helps with the shadows. I keep it at room temp. and use the tried and true method of consumption, chug, chug,(belch)chug, chug.
Whenever I feel anything bad coming coming on, chugging a can is the first thing I do. I feel it definitely helps lower the intensity and duration of a HA to the extent that I don't even need O2. |

I have a friend with Krohn's disease. He is prescribed Taurine as a digestive aid. It helps him in the early digestion of foods because his intestinal system is wrecked, as well as the quick absorbing of his pain meds, which by the way are insane. He has the delaudid lollipops that he always has in his mouth. The levels of which would kill most of us. WOW!
Any way Taurine as a digestive aid. That may be the reason the caffeine gets into the blood so fast from one of those drinks. BTW, I prefer the diet Monster, or the coffee flavored ones. They taste like a frapuccino. Eric t |

That's exactly what I mean when I say that Taurine is like a Turbo, it accelerates the other meds or vitamins & is why you should talk these things over with your GP before adding to your medical diet. Cheers Barry |
