My semi-anual visit with my neuro was yesterday... (my 50,000 mile check-up). I'm doing the same - got scripts renewed and all that. What's new and all the usual stuff...

Then we got on my family... some of you know I have an Idiot son with migraines - who WON'T go to a neuro. Wellll, I finally got him talked into letting me make him an appt with my neuro (without a referral cause he doesn't even have a doctor thank you very much!). Anyhow, my neuro said, of course, he'd take him (and about time).

Then we got on my grandson (who has "stomach migraines" - he's 8). Seems my doc had them when he was that age and can relate totally BUT he can't take him as a patient because no one in his "network" will cover for him. My grandson adores him and wants to be his patient, but he explained that if an emergency came up - there wouldn't be a doc to cover for him cause no one else is willing to take anyone under 18. That one just got to me. He did recommend a pediatric neuro and told me what to tell Caleb's peditrician to give him if I didn't want to take him to the neuro.

But that one got to me... age discimination. Apparently there's a law about that. He did tell me I could bring Caleb in with me and Caleb would think he'd seen him (Caleb was really serious about wanting GRANNY's Doc for his "stomach headaches"). And he did tell me what all he went thru as a kid with these things.

So if any of you have a young child who complains a lot about stomach pains have them checked for "stomach migraines" please. A few months ago I didn't know such an animal existed, but have gotten an education in them since Caleb was diagnosed with them. A lot of times when a history of migraines run in a family (or Clusters) a young child will present with stomach pain instead of head pain. It's not that uncommon, but goes MISdiagnosed a lot of time. It can be treated and save the child a lot of unnecessary pain. My neuro said it usually goes to the head at about 12 or 14 (aren't they they lucky ones).

Anyhow, that's just something I thought some who suffer both CH and migraines should watch for in your kids.

Doesn't surprise me at all that a regular neuro wouldn't touch Caleb. 

Pediatric insert-specialist-doctor-type-here specialize in children for a reason.  Like it or not, children are not little adults.  Their symptoms, medication needs and prohibitions, and physiology are entirely different than for adults.  There have been many cases of non-pediatric doctors over prescribing medications, treatments, or therapies or prescribing meds treatments or therapies that have drastic consequences in children, but wouldn't bother an adult.

I'd rather have a pediatric specialist treat a child than a specialist who "thinks" he /she knows what to do.  There are CHILDREN'S hospitals all over the country for a very good reason.
