Title: Good quote to remember today

‎"The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first." ~Thomas Jefferson

Quote:
“Whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government...”

Thomas Jefferson

If this doesn't happen through elections then it will happen through bloodshed. Either way it has to happen.

That's why the elections are so important.

I forget who said it, and I don't have the reference at hand, but I remember it well, thinking of it every election.  "Nations generally have the governments they deserve."

Here in California...we are poised to re elect a governor who we had 30 years ago. His campaign slogan is..."I won't screw everything up as badly as last time, I'm older and wiser now!"

The voters are buying it. Yes, we get exactly the government we deserve! :)

I imagine we'll re-elect the one we have.  Some years ago, he was arrested on a DUI after participating in a tight jeans contest at a local bar.  His defense was that he blew over the limit because the chewing tobacco he was using was soaked in whiskey.

I'll grant you that he's older now.

Best,

George

Or: "If a politician found he had cannibals among his constituents, he would promise them missionaries for dinner."

New York State Gubernatorial races are great fun. Last time we had one that we discovered  paid thousands of dollars for hookers after he was elected. This time one of them sent beastiality racist emails all over the place. The only solution would be a stoning or a write-in.

Quote:
It is the common fate of the indolent to see their rights become a prey to the active. The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance; which condition if he break, servitude is at once the consequence of his crime and the punishment of his guilt.
