Wow, that IS pretty cool, but it's sad the buffalo had to be put down.

I don't know where you read that. They don't put any critter down. The bear ate the bison. Natural selection. Potter |

It's a remarkable set of photos, and it must have been a hell of a thing to see.
Thing is, the photographer got pictures coming and going. I think that about the time the bison and the charging grizzly were in my lap, I'd be all about making myself really small. Car or no car around me. :o Feet, don't fail me now. Best, George |

Actually (from what I googled), it seems there are two different versions of the same story. One does indicate that the bison was put down the next day.

Bear may have smelled something bar-b-queing.
Where would a wildfire come from large enough for a bison to get caught up in in all that snow? |

What I heard is that the bison fell into one of the thermal features in the park. Not many fires going on up that way now. Best, George |

Yeah, wondered, wouldn't think so. Wow, almost boiled alive, or even steam roasted, survive to be chased down by a grizzly, then either mauled or shot. and how was your day? ;) ... give me a home where the buffalo roam. |

I agree with Kevin, must have been the smell of cooked meat that got the bear's attention then. Wow, great shots. I also agree with George, I would have been gone, baby GONE!

What was the buffalo thinking, looking at the buffalo on the wall?? ;D ;D ;D Thats just wrong..LMAO 8-)
It doesn't take a rocket scientist grizzily to stake out heated pools for pre cooked vittles, the wolves do it too. The buffalo push each other in fighting for the best spot cause it's cold out. Fish gotta swim, birds gotta eat. Like Potter said, they dont put anything down in the park unless there is a human death by predator. And usually the animal pay's for the stupidity of the human. Nature rocks the bb |

If the bison had done some type of distress bellowing, predators like bears seem to recognize distress calls from prey. Ears pick up and they get real interested to home in on it.
