Title: Nov 22, 1963....
Post by jon019 on Nov 22nd, 2010 at 10:12pm
I am surprised I am the first to post this...

The whole world changed on this day....

OUR President was murdered....

I couldn't care less what party he represented...

OUR President was murdered....

I was 8 yrs old and didn't understand anything, but...OUR President was murdered....

To this day, I struggle to understand THAT....OUR President was murdered...

The adults were CRYING...that amazed me...big people don't cry.....but OUR President was murdered...and they did...

Disagree with with the man, the politics....fine...but he was OUR President...and he was murdered...

Not sure I've ever gotten over it...OUR President was murdered...it makes NO sense...

WHAT...THE...HELL...we, who pride ourselves on our freedom...and they kill our leaders?????

I was about 25 when I learned President Reagan was shot...two days later....as I was isolated on an island in Alaska...all the awfull memories flooded in....

DAMN...DAMN...DAMN...this is a bad day for me...aren't we supposed to be better than this?
I dunno...I really wonder....

Jon

Jon,

I agree with you.  I remember my dad coming home from work with tears streaming down his face, and he HATED JFK for the Bay of Pigs.  When I said "I thought you would be glad" he said, "But he was my President."  I've never forgotten that, and I was 9.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid we put things like that out of our national consciousness.  Remembering things like that means we have to think responsibly and it is much easier to just look for the next entertainment.  How many remember Reagan's shooting?  Or the attempt on Gerry Ford?  Even 9/11 is getting less and less attention.

I was 17 and in school shop when they piped in the radio to all the classes. I'll never forget the dead silence from all the students between class.

Regardless your thinking about the Kennedys, they were fun. You don't see that today. Come to think of it, Reagan had a decent sense of humor...I guess that's the common denominator here...

I was a Junior in high school.  They also turned on the public address system and we all sat stunned as we listened to everything on the radio.  I absolutely adored Jack and Jackie and their two adorable little children and could not understand why? Simply why?

My parents were staunch republicans and didn't like the President's policies, his actions, his direction for the country, but when I got home from school my Mom was in tears and my Dad was absolutely livid that anyone would do this to the President of the United States of America!

I will never forget it.

Sandy
