Title: just a rant
Post by sox on Dec 8th, 2010 at 4:38pm
Does anyone else get really really P***** off with doctors that just really cant be *****. When back to the docs yesterday afternoon as still getting almost constant shadows that build to a bout a 6 and then die down to a 1/2.

Oh the doctors not seeing anyone this afternoon you will have to come back tomorrow. What about getting some pain meds to cope till then? I can do a repeat prescription for the imigran for you. (great that wont get till the pharmacist till tomorrow night. Thanks a ******* lots you bunch of *******. Anyway got to see the doc this morning and he would not get me O2. When i asked for something that i could take more than twice a day for the shadows he give me imigran nasal spray that guess what, YOU CAN ONLY TAKE 2 A DAY. Bunch of incompetent ********. He also in his infinite wisdom prescribed me propranolol 40mg once a day! its used at doses of 80-160mg per day for a migraine,

At least I convinced him to refer me to a neurologist so thing may be starting to look up.

sorry about the rant.

Sorry, man! that sucks.
I'm new at this too and had read some of the nightmare stories on here - thinking oh, Neurologists have probably caught up to speed on this horrifying condition by now!

Survey says.........  XXX.

Now I'm in the same boat as most of the fine folks here - thick skin, armed with info - keep going to dr's til you find one that can put their ridiculously large ego down for a second and listen and help.

My last neuro was more interested in remodeling her kitchen then getting me a promised oxygen tank, or returning my calls repeated phone calls while in excruciating pain, or even calling me with the results of my MRI.
it reminds me of the Seinfeld episode... "Delicate Genius"!

Don't hold out much hope for propranolol, it ranks up there with inderol. Helps migrainers, a placebo for CH'ers. Sadly your experience is common, we're just a bunch of drug seeking whiners! ;) Like oxygen is such a great high we'd lie about our pain to get it prescribed!

Check out the welding oxygen info in the oxygen info tab, what many on the board use, good luck.

Joe

That is awful!  I had a regular doctor refuse to give me O2 once.  Switch doctors--do it tomorrow!  Or what about if you go to the emergency room--there maybe you can get a prescription for oxygen??

It is proundly confounding why drs or anyone are prejudiced against O2. You will do better with a better neuro...but don't be afraid to doc shop if this neuro turns out to be no more informed or sympathetic. And check out the threads on welders O2, or even O2 for aquariums. Any O2 is better than no O2. And if you're really stuck, practice hyperventilating through rapid breathing. It's hard but I've had to do it in airports when I didn't have my E-tank. It helped me, some. Good luck, and God bless. lance

"Profoundly confounding" is right!

thanks guys,

Just knowing I'm not the only one and being able to let off a bit of steam to people who know what its like means a lot. (the ball & chain also appreciated not having to listen to me rant and rave as well :) )

Unfortunately due to the British way of doing things there isn't a different doctors surgery that I can register with (due to where I live) so I'm kinda stuck with them. I think with the O2 I'm gonna go to my local scuba dive shop and see if i can rent a tank of 100% O2 and use my regs and stuff that way, until I can see a neuro (although that will probably be in the new year now)

thanks,

Tom

Scuba people use compressed air. You are best getting welding oxygen.

This is a messy collection of pieces but points to the value of OUCH-UK: you do have options.

Why not ask to see the top man in the country - Dr. Manjit Matharu at UCL. Under Patient Choice - look at the link below - you have the right to choose who you see.

You can ask your GP to refer you to one of our hospitals for treatment
Central to the government’s healthcare policy is that patients should be given the opportunity to be more involved in making decisions about their healthcare. If you and your GP agree that you need to be referred to see a specialist, then you have a choice of at least four local hospitals or clinics. Since May 2006, that choice has been extended. You can now also choose to go to any Foundation Trust in the country, including UCLH. Whether you’re from Cornwall or Camden, as a patient you now have the right to choose UCLH. You can ask your GP to refer you to one of our hospitals for treatment.

Your right most divers use standerd compressed air (21%02). However some divers will use compressed 02 (21-100% 02) to help reduce decopression times whilst in the water, provided you have the qualification. its going to be an easier way for me as i already have suitable regs that i could connect to the tank, as well as a demand valve that you allow me to take 02 as required.

as to being able to get a referal to a different neuro, on paper it works great but the real world is a different matter all together. im not holding much hope that i will see one till after the new year.
