Title: Help from you ladies please. Post by lorac on Dec 22nd, 2010 at 3:31pm
OK...heres my queerie. I am 56 yrs old , and have been in menopause for 8 yrs. On a recent trip to the Doc... for anual Pap smear, He gave me Premarin vaginal cream, for dryness and Hot flashes. I also went for my Mamogram today, While chatting with the woman doing the Mamo..... We talked about menopause, and I mentioned the premarin cream.
She said she had tried it too.... but she has Clusterheadaches, and so she could not take it!!!!! Imagine my surprise, not only about that, but just meeting another CHr is ...Well you know. She said the premarin cream brought on her CHs. so she had to stop. So...now I wonder if she was going to go into cycle anyway, or if the hormone cream really did bring it on. Jeesh..I am afraid to try it now till I find out if thats a probabillity. So does anyone out there have any knowledge of this, or had any experience with the same thing????? I figured I would ask you all first, and see, If not, then I think I will actually try to phone the drug company that makes it, and ask about it. Hope you all are doing ok, and Have a Great Christmas season. Thanks : carol |

I have no clue about the Premarin. I think we all have different triggers and the only way to find out is to try it and see what happens.
Good luck and pf wishes. |

I always got a huge kick out of where the name "Premarin" comes from:
Pregnant. Mare. Urine. |

Being of the other persuasion I can't help much. :D
I would suggest you look into the ingredients and see if there is a vaso-dilator in it that could possibly trigger you. Beyond that I think it would be trial and error. Keep the O2 handy. I do hope it helps, and a very merry Christmas to you as well. Jerry |

Not a ch'er here, but I am on hormones (so qualify from that angle anyway). Unless your cluster headaches were hormonally induced originally, most likely, it won't affect them this time. That being said, migraines (if you have those) can be triggered by the *dips* in fluctuating hormone levels (and premarin is bad about that). There are better hormone medications out there that won't affect any type of headache as much and better for hot flashes too. As to your other problem, replens should fix that.

Coming from a typical Man, I would like to point out! I still love ya Bill, but please speak to that to which you don't know or have experienced. :-* Speaking as a menopausal woman, my suggestion would to try it. If it doesn't trigger a CH and helps the menopausal symptoms - Great. If it triggers, then don't use it and look for other menopausal treatments. Unfortunately, I can't be of much help here because I can't take ERT meds, so I'm trying herbal helps, which do and don't help. Sandy |

I used to get 8+ migraines/month and 8+ ch/day. I had a complete hysterectomy and my migraines stoped but my ch stayed. I dont believe hormones trigger them but we are all different. You wont know until you try it. So go ahead and try it and then you will know. Good luck in your endevor!
