Title: Netty Pot?
Post by Jeannie on Dec 30th, 2010 at 12:51pm
I've heard so many people rave about how great they feel after using a Netty Pot.  I bought something similar but mine is called NasoPure and is to be used in the shower.  It flushes out your sinuses with saline.

I'm a little bit afraid to use it.  I have an aversion to anything being put in my nose/ear for fear of triggering a hit. ( I had a Dr get really upset with me because I refused a Flu swab.)

Has anyone ever used something like this and did it cause any CH trouble for you?

Thanks!

PF wishes,

Jeannie

I've never had the balls to try one - I'm afraid I'll drown.

I tried it with this last flu bug I had. The flushing actually felt great, once you get past the "Holy Crap I'm Drowning" phase! I'm off cycle but no effect.

Saw this and thought there was a new recreational drug to cure ch.   ;D  jk, Jeannie.

I've never heard of such a thing.  I understand your concern about triggering a ch.  Only way to find out is to try it with the 02 nearby.  Let us know how it works for you if you decide to give it a try.

LOL!  Too funny.  I think I spelled it incorrectly.  In Potter's Craig's list add it's spelled Netti.  Maybe you'd have recognized it had I spelled it right.

I'm working up the courage to try it.  The fact that I do have 02 on hand makes me a little less afraid.  I have that full feeling in my sinuses, on my CH side, all the time.  I guess I'll find out if it makes it better or worse.  That is...IF I get brave.  Thanks to the boys, now I'm scared I'll drown!!!   LOL!

Using a Netti pot or similar device is as easy as pie.

To avoid the danger of drowning, just open wide your mouth. Then the velum (or soft palate) closes the opening between oral and nasal cavities, and what you pour into one nose hole runs out the other, and not into the throat.

I've never been able to get the thing to work.  It won't drain out the other side no matter what I do.  I think the deviated septum might have something to do with it.

You have to tilt your head forward and to the side. open your mouth and breathe through your mouth. It really is good. Potter has a fancy one. I have the blue plastic one. I think there really is something to it.

Potter - If you can't get rid of it for a buck, maybe you could serve jasmine tea from it?

I've used this in the past for bad allergy attacks and sinus (didn't do jackshit for my sinus').

Jimbo has used a homemade sinus rinse for years and to my knowledge, it never triggered a ch attack.

Thanks, Darlin'

The thing I bought is more like a bottle than a true Netti pot.  My heads acting up so I know I won't have the courage to try it today.

Quick story. I think I mentioned a while back I had a massive nosebleed on Dec 1 while traveling where they kept focusing on my CH instead of my bloody nose in the ER. Anyway, one of the things that helped with the nosebleed, since I can't use Afrin (it irritates the nasal lining) is the netty pot, which is just amazing. At first it is weird. The key is to hang over the sink, with your mouth open to let the water come out both your open nasal passage and your mouth, and you will cough a little. once you get used to it, and after you finish doing it once, you will have no problem doing it a few times a day. It is great to clear out your sinuses. When I have allergies, I use it 3x a day, and I literally never blow my nose (except right after to clear out the stuff). It not only keeps you clear, but it prevents your nasal and sinus passages from drying out (warning, never do it with plain water, even if you run out of saline, it will dry out your passages immediately). They sell Ayr saline packs, 100 for about 5 bucks.

As a quick follow up, if you're afraid, try the child's version first, it's a smaller bottle, you can do it twice or even once, and it's not as scary looking as the adult bottle, since it's so tiny.

I had a good chuckle reading all you's comments...

But My mother in law who has sinus issues uses one.  She is always telling me I have sinus problems, she can't seem to understand that my headaches are clusters and not sinus induced whatever.  I tried it recently when I had a cold, used a menthol solution and it cleared me out nice deviated septum and all.  No affect on the headache I had going on, but it was worth a shot (I once snorted cayenne pepper up my nose and stood on my head, no lie, to try and kill a cluster, LOL) so I will try just about anything once.

Thanks Tara,

I'm not looking to help my Clusters by using this.  I am just concerned that it will aggravate it.

Had a couple of hits so I don't think I'll try it today.

I do that... Its all good.
I used to use Choloidal silver, with a little sea salt added.   but now I am using the kind you can buy in a can ...in the store.  Its just so easy. And I got several cans of it free.
Cleans out your sinus really well.   but ya don't want to do it every day.
Only use it when I feel something coming on, like a cold and all.   It does help.

Jeannie,

I haven't had a CH in almost three years.  I haven't posted on here even though I read here occassionally.  During the time I was experiencing CH's, I used a Netty Pot regularly for my sinuses.  Anytime I was in dust such as bagging the grass from cutting the lawn or working in my woodshop, I always used the Netty Pot.  I can't remember a single time that I thought the Netty caused me to have a hit.  Mine were always in the early morning hours from 2-4 A.M.
