I'm not challenging the conclusions of these reports but I do want to point out how it's necessary to read the subtle qualifiers in both reports.
These are not established treatments and a fair amount of new ideas in medicine turn out to be flashes-in-the-pan. These may be developments worth following for subsequent testing but not to be accepted as a basic element of one's treatment program. One sentence from each of the two reports: "Of note, despite decreased proinflammatory cytokines, based on recent clinical data, this must be the FIRST human study report to show an increase level of free testosterone after boron consumption." "Our results suggest that vitamin D supplementation might increase testosterone levels. Further randomized controlled trials are warranted to confirm this hypothesis." |
Title: Re: Testosterone Post by eilif on Dec 31st, 2010 at 8:06am
Hi Bob
The best way to test the hypothesis, is to try it yourself. I take 6 mg Boron and 10.000 IU vitamin-D3 per day. Before the supplementation my testosterone level was way to low, but is now in the normal range. So it works for me. CH free for 3 years. :D |

Using a treatment on a single person is not a scientific test of the hypothesis. Any single event may be caused by the drug or it can be a random event. And single events don't tell us which is the real cause.
Our messages are full of chatter about this works or doesn't work or, somethich which has worked for me has stopped working, etc. When confronted with this kind of variability it's a problem to declare that "truth" has been discovered. Just reflect on the responses to someone declaring, "I've found the cure for Cluster!" Happens regularly and, regularly, the person is shot down because we have a broad collective experience that such a cure hasn't been found. If you look at the PDR and see the masses of people on whom a new drug is tried and see the variation in their responses to the drug, you get some idea of the complexity of establishing "truth" in science. Good science is a long, complex process |

Your right. It doesn’t prove anything. But I don't want to wait 10-20 years for randomized controlled trials. Taking Boron and vitamin-D3 are safe, with no side effects. It also boosts your overall health and protects you against cancer, hearth diseases, autoimmune diseases and a lot more. That’s a nice bonus. ;)

Just in case anyone is wondering, Niels has absented himself again. ::) Since this is the fifth or sixth time he's done so, I doubt it will be the last.

Somehow, I sorta figured Niels's words wouldn't cause you a lot of concern. ;) Still--nonsense or not--it's something to consider next time. The CH.com "Code of Conduct" is pretty clear that threats against any member, whether on the boards or in PM will not be tolerated. And they won't be. Best, George |

If Attila the Hun was going after Potter, he wouldn't be concerned. Potters dug in. Hitler would be jealous of his very defensible position. Give me a call when he shows, well have party. ;D

Title: Re: Testosterone Post by Lieutenant2 on Jan 7th, 2011 at 2:15pm
You know, I just had to chime in here (because the thread title caught my attention, I made the mistake of reading it). . .I have no clue who this banned character is, and I'm sure he's probably a class-A pr!ck. Sending anybody a threat on the intrawebs is moronic.
However, being new here, I've noticed a pattern. Any time someone posts something they have tried or a treatment theory they may have (provided this person isn't one of the 10 "regulars"), their post is immediately dismissed with "stop trying to sell things" or "shut up and get oxygen, you don't know what you're talking about" or something similar. After a few months of coming here looking for information, and seeing a lot of that, it turned me off to this site completely. And I've had this same conversation via PM and email with other people who have looked for information here, and felt the exact same way. So, it's the 'net and it's your forum, you are free to use it any way you'd like. . .but you may want to change your mission statement to something a little more sanctimonious. An open exchange of ideas isn't as welcome here as you think. On a related note, after suffering with 4-5 CHs a day, all of the crippling variety, I've been almost pain free for two months. I've had two headaches in that time. I've made some dietary changes and switched to a combination of supplements that I believe has worked for me. The kind of stuff I'd love to share with other sufferers, honestly. But I know the first reply to my post would be this "Potter" character, telling me to STFU and get an oxygen tank. Well, I'm gonna pass on that, thanks. Mods, I guess you can put me on the "banned" list, too. . .this club is too exlusive for me. |
Title: Re: Testosterone Post by Linda_Howell on Jan 7th, 2011 at 3:00pm
Sorry you feel that way. You haven't been here long enough to experience the years of posts from people who are indeed trying to sell something, posts from folks whose only intention is to muck up a message board, posts from scam artists of one sort or another. I could go on. DJ set up us moderators to be his eyes for just this sort of thing since he couldn't be here every day.
You were correct in one thing. This IS an exclusive club. A club of CH sufferers and their supporters. There is more information on this site than anywhere else you'll be able to find. It was accrued patiently over the last 12 yrs. by dedicated people trying to help, including many Doctors who act as our advocates. |

WOW!
Well, welcome to the board lieutenant. I'm sorry in the 14 times you have posted, you've had such a negative experience here. We're dedicated to helping people with CH. When someone comes here trying sell acai berries, chiropractics, pepper sprays as cures here, we make them dissappear fast. We have embraced numerous "alternative" treatments, dedicated entire sites to them, discuss everything from magnesium and PH levels to masturbation as treatments for sufferers. If you bring a new treatment here, be willing to justify it and defend it. That's all we ask. As a member of this site...and until you cross the line and personally attack another member, then you ARE a member, your choices are simple. 1: Become an active contributing, supportive member of this board. Welcoming new sufferers and their supporters, steering them towards high percentage treatments, being a shoulder to cry on when someone is just hurting, answering questions when you can, steering them to those who can when you can't, in other words, being a supportive member of this board. or 2: Stay in the back of the stadium and throw mud at everyone. Your call sir. Joe |
Title: Re: Testosterone Post by BigCoffinHunter on Jan 7th, 2011 at 5:51pm
The reason you're seeing the same recommendations over and over is...because they work. We've all seen the 'miracle cures' come and go, usually from a first post with a link to a website. Why does everyone recommend O2? Because it's cheap, it works, and there are no side effects.
Really, there are a lot of sufferers here who have tried every combination of meds and supplements, and there are ones that work, and ones that don't. The recommendations are from our collective experience. |
