Title: Weird thing about Melatonin
Post by Erics.Parents on Jan 1st, 2011 at 11:35pm
Melatonin is used to help with nighttime CHs.  So far is the one thing that I KNOW has helped my sons nighttime hits.  In fact, it completely cut out nighttime hits which helped lower daytime hits.  I found out the hard way that the right doses are extremely important.  When I first started him out on melatonin, I had him taking 9 mg. of reg. and 3 mg. of 2-stage release.

Well we ran out of the 2-stage release and in a rush I had to get a time released melatonin and was stonger.  Well he had a small hit right when he woke up the next morning.  The next day he was hit hard around 6 am and it continued ALL day...a total of  5 hits.  I went right out and found the right stuff and the following 3 days till today has had no hits.

Just wanted to let anyone who wants to try and has tried about the right dosage might be important, maybe starting with a low dose and build up.  I believe the other stuff was too strong for Eric because the day he had alot of hits, he would take 2 minutes cat naps and when he did, his eyelids would flutter and his eyes would roll back into the back of his head which is something he has never done before.

Your experience with the combination of regular melatonin and two-stage release melatonin is interesting.  Thank you for passing that along.

I'll be interested to see whether or not others might duplicate your experience by using melatonin in a similar fashion.  I know I'll be trying this the next time I go into cycle.

Posts like this are how we learn to fine-tune the treatments we've found to be effective.

Again--many thanks.

Best,

George

Very interesting.  I always use the time release, and have done great (always being for the last month lol).  Everyone's suffering is different, however.  I do find with melatonin that I'm so groggy that I needed to start drinking energy drinks so I would stay awake, which, oddly also helped the shadows.  Whatever works for him, just keep it up.  Wishing him pf days ahead!

I've touted the benefits of mixing time-release with normal melatonin for quite a while.  It is the most effective method for me.
