Chat room's still there, as far as I know, but I don't think many people use it any more.  Too many alternatives now--various chat programs, skype, and so forth.  I'd imagine most people are using those to chat these days.

Just spent about a half hour skyping with my daughter from her dorm room on campus.  I love Skype.   :)

Where is your daughter going to school and what is her major?

She's going to Idaho State University.  She's majoring in Zoology and minoring in Geology.  As of now, she intends to do her undergraduate work there, and hopes to go to graduate school for a masters in Paleontology someplace else--possibly Montana State, or University of Wyoming. 

'Course, it's early days--who knows what will eventually capture her interest?

Those are some well thought out plans....even if she changes her mind along the way it sounds like she will plan it out well.  So I assume she is close to home for the time being, that must have made the transition from high school to college student for you guys easier.

Easier than her original plan to go to school in Canada.   ;)

ISU is in Pocatello.  It's still 300 miles away, but that's not too bad.  Lizzy and I both went there beaucoup long time ago, so we feel very comfortable with her choice.

I'm not feeling hijacked silly!  If my child had just gone off to college, that would be at the front of my mind too!

Tara, you should see some of Els art.  Spectacular comes to mind.   Even if she takes a different direction with Geology and Zoology that little girl is a artist for sure.   All of us here marvel at her "eye" and I personally wish I was as talented as she is.

OMG she sure does have a huge talent!  Artist, and with that first pic fashion designer comes to mind too.  Amazing work.
