Title: New here.....after lurking for 10 years
Post by Yan on Jan 13th, 2011 at 12:38pm
Hi everyone,

My name is Yanick, from Montreal, Canada.

After suffering from CH for a few years and not knowing what was wrong with me, I found CH.com in 2000 or 2001, and started to cry when I read the symptoms listed here and for the fact that I was not alone.

I lived with the beast for years, trying everything from water, capsicum, energy drinks and so on.....

In 2007 I managed to find a clinic (Clinique de la Migraine de Montreal) that knew about CHs, and after calling them, I was getting an appointment the next day.(as soon as I said cluster headaches, they were in a hurry to give me an appointment.... at first they wanted me to see my family doctor to get a recommendation)

Since then, I have been there for two cycles since, and was put on Verapamil and got Zomig for the attacks.

Today is my birthday, and as a present, life gave me a "wonderful" present......another cycle....

I have an appointment tomorrow at the clinic, and I was lucky to have some Zomig left from the last cycle in 2009 last night when I got my first attack.

I decided to join the board today because I was curious about Batch's threads on Vitamin D....

I stated to have some CH symptoms last saturday while having wine, and the next day I had a very mild attack after having a beer, but since I just started a cold, my sinuses were giving me problems....and I was not too sure it was the beast coming for a visit...

Yesterday, I decided to go ahead and buy some Vitamin D3 and some Omega 3 supplements....

Took 8 000 units of Vitamin D yesterday.....and unfortunately.....got the beast an hour and a half after going to bed at midnight....

The Zomig took care of the attack within 15 minutes and managed to sleep a full night after that.....

So, here I am.......on the board....and glad to know about this site that was my companion for so many sleepless nights...

Thanks to all the posters on here......it feels good to know you are out there....and I am not alone...

For people in Montreal, make sure to contact the Clinique de la Migraine de Montreal.....they are top notch, and Dr Magnoux is a great neurologist...

I had the oxygen the first time I found that neuro......just didn't worked and had to suffer for 3 hours with a full blown attack.....

While Zomig takes care of the attacks 99.9% of the time...

Would not want to chance it again..... I've been a lab rat for too much suffering already ;)

I see that it's pretty rocking over here! :)

A question about oxygen......after you abort attack with oxygen, do you get a full night of sleep, or do you get another attack?

I used to get another attack if I aborted with water or energy drinks.......not with Zomig

That's a good question. Aborting an attack with O2 also means staying on O2 for 10-15 minutes at a lower flow rate after the hit is aborted. This seems to help in reducing the rebound or even onset of the next attack. Now, I chug a full size Monster or Red Bull at first hint and then huff the O2. I saved imitrex or migranal for the stubborn hitters that wouldn't yield, but now am in a pretty effective regimen.

As to the O2...it's not a preventative. It's an abortive. And a palliative. My first reaction to high flow O2 during a hit was amazement at how it helped me manage the pain. I could live through the high KIP hits without screaming. Now, I never go anywhere without it. Blessings. lance

Glad you stuck your nose in here Yan, and welcome.  :)I'll echo the strong support for 02, has all but eliminated my use of triptans.
